Sometimes we forget what amazing people our parents are. We forget all the trouble they went through to guarantee a smile on our face. We overlook the long nights and money spent to ensure that we were simply happy. They would spend a sleepless night just to see us smile for a brief 2 minutes. Well here's a few things to thank your parents for whenever you get the chance.
1. Christmas
It's funny we get most of the presents yet they get most of the satisfaction. There wallets are the ones that hurt yet they are the ones that feel rich. They even listened for subtle unconscious hints you may give when strolling through the mall or passing a store in the car. Even for taking the time to wrap all the presents. Most of all, the environment they made for Christmas. They made Santa come alive with footprints and noises. It's not about the presents, it was about the experience, the family jokes, the feast, and the excitement.
2. The Support
As growing adults we go through a lot of change and new things and there isn't a time when they aren't behind you pushing you through and giving you the support you need.
3. The Pets
Maybe not you, but I went through it all, lizards, hamsters, fish, all the way to a puppy. Trust me, they didn't want a lizard living in the house or a hamster. They supported me and helped me through it all. Most importantly, they feed them when I couldn't.
4. The Girlfriends
As parents they know you're going to be in the dating world. That doesn't mean they are going to like everyone you do. Needless to say, they will give you their opinion but not neglect yours. They always look for the best.
5. The Sickness
We all know what it's like to go through a cold without your mom their to make you soup and baby you. Yeah...
6. College
Do you really know how much college is. Now add on insurance, the cost for the accident you just got into, and the extra data because you went over.
7. Disney
The trips to Disney were unforgettable. The lengths they went through just so I could get an autograph from a 21-year-old dressed in a Buzz Light Year costume was unfathomable.
8. The Meals
Now that I live on my own, I have gained a new appreciation for the hours my mother spent slaving over the stove just to have a quality home cooked meal.
9. Their forgiveness
Every child has had those moments when something spills out that we didn't really mean. Something enough to see such pain in their faces that it makes you consider just what kind of person you are to say something like that. Deep down they know that you didn't mean it. It may eat at them but they are always quick to say, I forgive you.
10. Being a Role Model
Lets be honest, we all want to be like our parents when we grow up in some way, shape, or form. They may have set an example for marriage or career goals. The point is, we all strive to live up to their standards.
11. The Love
They always seem to have this infinite source of warmth they were so willingly able to share. They always were there to hug and vent to whether it be after you fell on the bike, a break up, or getting layed off. The love they have is something that stays with you for the rest of your life.
