When you start dating a cook, you get excited. You think they might cook for you all the time, they'll have all the answers to your cooking questions, and your kitchen will be loaded. Some things are true and some things aren't. Here are 11 things you'll identify with if you are dating a cook.
1. Your kitchen is full of cool gadgets.
You'll always be prepared to make any meal you want. You probably don't even know what half of it does, but whatever it is, you've got it.
2. Their work clothes smell awful.
When they come home, they smell like grease, sweat, and spices. Depending on the smell, you can tell what station they were on that night. On the bright side, you learn how to get the toughest of stains out.
3. They want something new every time you go to the store.
Every time you walk through a store you have to go through the kitchen ware, and every time they oh and ah over a new gadget they don't have yet that they want.
4. You can never make weekend plans with them.
They will ALWAYS work on weekends. Weekends are typically the busiest time for a restaurant, so you know they'll always have to go in.
5. And if you want to spend time with them on weekdays, you'll be up late.
They always get home late at night after the kitchen closes, which means pushing back your bedtime to somewhere between one and three am just to spend time with them.
6. It's impossible to get them up early.
On their days off, it's almost impossible to get them up before noon because they are so used to night shift.
7. They swear like a sailor.
They have the openness to cuss in the kitchen and they use it a lot, which means bringing it home with them.
8. They always come home with kitchen gossip.
You always know about the new waitress/waiter or if something happened to someone in the kitchen.
9. They don't always like to cook dinner when they do get home.
Sometimes they will, sometimes they'll turn to you and say they don't feel like cooking, which leads to ordering take out, or the horror of you cooking for them. But you're always willing to try a new recipe when they do want to cook.
10. When you cook for them, you're always worried about what they think of it.
You know you can not cook half as well as them, so you're always nervous of them trying something you made. Even if you mess it up though, they are always there to help fix it.
11. Whenever someone says they like that restaurant, you're always proud of them.
You beam with pride when someone says they love the food they ate there and then talk about how your significant other is a cook there.
