11 Things You'll Miss When You Move Away From Doylestown
Honor Ford

Up until college, I'd lived in Doylestown, Pennsylvania for my entire life. My grandparents live and have lived within a five-minute radius from my house for as long as I can remember. Doylestown's small-town charm has become a part of my identity, and it was most of the reason why I decided to go to school in a small town as well. Here are 11 things you'll miss when you move away from Doylestown.

1. Having your friends a short drive away.

They used to be right down the street from you. Going from seeing them every day to only over school breaks stinks.

2. Hanging out in town.

Whether it's chilling in Burpee Park, hanging at the Doylestown Bookshop. getting pizza at Jules, or going to Starbucks, you're bound to miss it at some point (even when you swear you won't).

3. Knowing everyone everywhere.

My friends will probably disagree with me on this, but being able to walk through town or school and recognize people is kinda nice sometimes. You gotta admit, you miss it.

4. Seeing the sunsets and sunrises.

Whether it was on your way to school or on a summer night, your day was guaranteed to be brightened by a Doylestown sunset or sunrise.

5. Going to the Doylestown Tree Lighting.

Because the holiday season wouldn't be the holiday season until the whole town crammed right outside of Starbucks to see the tree lighting.

6. Being really proud when the only state champs are theater kids.

You love explaining to your college friends that yes, your sports teams have made it to states, but no, it didn't happen this year, and the only state champs were theater kids! (I am so proud!)

7. Complaining that there's nothing to do in Doylestown.

Everything closes at 8 p.m. and although I've lived here for eighteen years, I'm going to sit around and complain about it. LET ME LIVE.

8. Going to Wawa late at night.

And if you do decide to go somewhere, it's racing to the 24-hour Wawa at 11:50 p.m. for Free Coffee Fridays. (And Ben & Jerry's pints.)

9. Waiting in line at Rita's on the first day of spring (even if it's freezing).

You will pretend it's spring no matter how cold it is. Rita's means it's spring time. RIGHT?

10. Seeing deer pretty much everywhere.

They walk in the road. They walk through your yard. Doylestown deer DO NOT CARE.

11. Being a small-town kid.

You love the goofiness of your small town. It's unique, crazy, and it's made you who you are. And you'll miss it when you move away.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
