The new year is now upon us, and with a new year comes along a new you. It's very cliché, I know, trust me. But we always promise ourselves to lose a miraculous amount of weight or to make more money. And don't get me wrong, your New Year's resolution is your New Year's resolution, don't let me stand in your way of what you want to do. But I think these few things are good to keep in the back of your mind for the new healthier, more loving you.
1. Always keep positive.
Purge everything and everyone in your life that makes you feel unloved and negative. Being positive is such an important key to living a healthy life. Why keep something around if they keep you down all the time? Surround yourself with people who love and support you, not those who tear you down.
2. Make sure to love yourself before you love someone else.
You can't love yourself and who you are, how are you able to love at all? You are the most important person in your life. You are an amazing person that can and will do incredible things. Make sure you love who you are before anything or anyone else.
3. Trust your gut.
It may not be what you want to do, but it's probably the right thing to do. Sometimes we have to sacrifice what we want and that's a part of life. In the end, doing the right thing is most likely for the best. You may not see why now, but later down the line, you'll find the reason why.
4. Don't live your life in the past.
We've all experienced some bad times in our lives but we need to learn to forgive and forget. Holding grudges is what gets you down, and like I said before, you gotta keep positive.
5. Whatever you do, make sure it's what makes you happy.
Life is like a movie and you're the star. Keep doing what makes you happy despite what others say. It's your life. Who are they to say or judge anything about it?
6. Don't bottle it all up.
This may be an easy thing for me to say, considering I'm an emotional person and I can't hold my tongue for my life, but bottling up your feelings is not healthy. You may be a private person and you might not feel comfortable talking about your feelings, but in the end it's worth it. Now, I'm not saying you need to tell every single person you speak to, but at least have that one person you can go to for everything and anything. If you keep all your feelings inside, there's going to be a point where you're going to explode, and we don't want that.
7. Don't let something that's happened to you define who you are.
Things happen. We're not perfect. We're going to experience some really tough times and make mistakes. But we shouldn't let them define who we are. We should treat them as lessons and learn from them so we know better next time. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
8. You have to know how the bad times feel like in order to know what the good ones feel like.
There are going to be bad times and there are going to be good times. Don't let the bad times get you down. Once you reach those great times in your life, you're going to enjoy them so much more.
9. Treat yourself!
You get to be a little selfish sometimes. Go out and enjoy yourself. Life is not about always pleasing others and putting others first. Spend some time to yourself. Go to a movie. Maybe even splurge a little bit on a nice dinner out. Or even spend time reading a book that you've wanted to finish. Whatever it is, enjoy yourself.
10. Don't take advantage of the people around you.
Sometimes we tend to take advantage of loved ones in our lives. On a personal level, I learned that we have to cherish the moments we have with everyone, because one day, they might forget everything you've done together or even who you are. We're not going to be walking this earth forever, so make the most of it.
11. It's okay to be sad.
And it's okay to cry. I always used to think that being sad was unhealthy and that we all needed to be happy all the damn time. Recently, I learned that being sad isn't such a negative thing after all. Like I said before, there are going to be some tough times but know that you're going to get through them. It's worth it. And you're worth it.
