When you're out of school, all you can think about what you're doing this summer. While you're planning that vacation to the beach, you suddenly look at your bank account. It's at $3.25. Now, you're stuck at home for the summer with no job, no internship, no reason to live except for the 20 hour-long episodes of that Netflix binge-worthy show. What else is there to do?
1. Go downtown window shopping.
Go to the inner city, shop around, and don't buy anything with some of your closest friends. Sure, it might be depressing not buying anything, but that's the beauty of window shopping. You get the looks but not the actual "look."
2. Learn how to cook.
Scramble up some of the old ingredients leftover in your mom's pantry and make something up! Yes, granted you might need to go to the grocery store, but cooking is a valuable skill that everyone must have...even if it is just cereal.
3. Go to the pool.
If your neighborhood/apartment complex/house has a pool, spend all summer lounging around! Get a tan, take a swim, hang with friends. It beats having to pay for a hotel at the beach.
4. Get a job.
Instead of spending money, get some money! It doesn't have to be a lavish job, just earn some extra bucks serving plates of food at the diner or making tacos at Taco Bell. Hey, free tacos amirite?
5. Get an internship.
It's never too late to apply for internships! Companies are still hiring them and you can still pick up extra experience in your related field. I would check out small companies first, to keep your chances high. Getting ahead in your field is always important.
6. Sell your clothes.
Want to earn some extra cash but don't want to spend seven hours sitting in a desk? Sell your clothes online such as eBay or sell your clothes in person such as yard sales or the local Plato's Closet. It actually makes a ton of money and you can save for various expenses...like new clothes.
7. Volunteer.
Volunteering is great because you can do it wherever, whenever you want. Go to the animal shelter, go to the youth center, go to the senior center. It gets you out of your house but also warms your heart.
8. Hang with friends.
Call up your old high school friends. Make plans with your college buddies. Mesh them in one big group and introduce your old friends to your new college friends. Go to a concert. Go to the mall. Go somewhere. Go to a Mexican restaurant. Maybe between all of you, you have enough money to travel somewhere!
9. Explore historical places.
Washington D.C., museums, and so much more. I'm sure in your small town there's a historical event that took place, so check out your town's history and go explore. It shall be fun.
10. Read a book.
Get ahead on your classes for next semester, read the new summer hit, or reread the Harry Potter series. I highly encourage this one, reading is super important.
11. Ask money from Mom and Dad.
If all else fails, ask money from your parents. You're still in college, you're still on their insurance plan, so why not? Ask them to fund your beach trip.
