The worst thing is being really in shape and then slacking on going to the gym... for a year. Then you have to start all over again and struggle your way back into shape. Here are 11 things that make starting the gym again a real feat.
1. Being completely clueless
Why in the world do my arms feel like this? I think I'm sure they're falling off.
3. Feeling like everyone in the gym is working circles around you
I'm on my third rep while everyone else is on their third set... How in the world do these people go that fast?!
4. Sweating... a lot
Everyone else has a nice glisten while I'm sweating like a pig. Gross.
5. Trying not to be intimidated by the "bodybuilders" of the gym
Okay, so they're not actually bodybuilders. They may as well be, though. I didn't know muscles that big were possible... I'm pretty sure they bench four of me.
6. Trying to fit the gym into your busy schedule
Everything seems more important than going to the gym when I'm out of shape and have dwindling motivation. Everything. It also makes me want to do every single bit of homework I know about, even that project due in three months.
7. Thinking you're going to die your first week back
I don't think this much of my body has ever hurt all at once. I didn't even know half of what's currently hurting was there. I'm almost positive I'm dying.
8. Having to do laundry more often
You can't just wait until you run out of clothes anymore or else you have nothing to work out in.
9. Having to shave your legs consistently
Winter is the one time you don't have to shave your legs consistently and the gym just ruins that. You only have so many pairs of leggings and workout pants until you have to break out the shorts.
10. Getting callouses
There's nothing like having an awesome workout then looking down to find that I've given myself man hands.
11. Watching what you eat so you don't waste your hard work
After working
The good news is if you push through the struggle, you look and feel pretty amazing. So I guess in the end, the struggle is worth it.
