There are three kinds of people when it comes to nails: those who obsess over them and strive to keep them long and well-done, those who have them nicely kept and wish they were longer but don’t have the time to grow them, and those who have them short and don’t care whatsoever.
I happen to be part of the first group of people. Nails come in all shapes, sizes, and colors (if painted), but those who maintain long, girly nails have a few struggles and it sucks when people make fun of us for it. We express ourselves through them and it doesn’t come easy! Here are 11 of our main struggles of nail care.
1. When your manicure starts to chip after a few weeks
It’s that time again… your manicure was cute while it lasted but now is the time to get a new one.
2. Having to choose a color when you have so much nail polish
Should you go with a bold color like red? Or maybe a cute pastel purple? Or maybe soothing blue. Should you paint designs? Stripes? polka dots? Hearts? So many choices!
3. Avoiding certain nail polish brands because they suck
If you bought the nail polish at the dollar store, it probably won’t last long.
4. Almost breaking your thumb after intensely removing a pesky spot of nail polish
You need at least two coats on each nail and the more complicated the manicure, the harder you need to rub it off.
5. Having to cut or file unruly nails before painting them
Each nail needs to be relatively the same in shape and length but it doesn’t come without work.
6. Accidentally breaking a nail and not having a file or nail-cutter handy
You’re in class or at work and bam! Your nail snaps and you don’t have access to a correcting tool. Now you’ll be distracted because you’re thinking about fixing it as soon as you’re done.
7. Just breaking a nail in general
It’s terrible… especially when the rest of your unbroken nails look perfect.
8. Growing out your nails and making a bit of noise while typing
Once nails get to a certain length, they start to interfere with certain activities like typing. You’d be the most annoying secretary ever.
9. Violently waving your hands around to air dry your freshly-painted nails
Some manicures take forever to air dry so to speed it up, you do the classic “wave hands around in the air like a crazy bird” move.
10. Not being able to do anything for a good hour after painting your nails
Just painted your nails? Forget about writing, going to the bathroom, scratching, getting food, or even pull up your pants for the next hour. You can’t sacrifice your manicure.
