11 Struggles All Bookworms Experience

Being a bookworm isn't easy. It can warrant rides on the struggle bus.

So you probably already know if you're a bookworm - (If you don't know, check out my article on being a bookworm!) But we tend to all struggle with the same things. These are the top 11 struggles most bookworms battle day in and day out:

1. Finding a comfortable position when reading.

You're comfortable, finally, and can settle down into reading your book....until 30 minutes later, you're uncomfortable because your butt has gone numb. So you adjust again, only to find fifteen minutes later that your arms are struggling to hold your book. It's an ongoing battle that I never seem to be able to win!

2. Losing your page.

Using bookmarks is okay, but when I jump up to grab something and the wind has closed my book, the struggle to not read any spoilers is brutal. Even worse is when you use a bookmark and it gets pulled out, either on accident or by someone who didn't know any better. But don't you dare dog-ear the page!

3. Getting interrupted when you're trying to read.

I can't tell you how many times I've lost my page when someone comes in and tries to talk to me. I'm either reading too closely and not paying attention to the person who's talking to me - which can cause an issue on occasion - or vice versa. Not to mention, even if I'm still managing to read, I'm definitely reading the same page over and over again.

4. Deciding between hardback vs. paperback books.

Getting a hardback book means you have it basically right as the book releases! It also means the cover comes with a nice book jacket and everything. But they're usually more expensive and can be hard to put in bags to carry around. Paperback books tend to be all sizes, but they also can be bent and cracked more often. But, either way, it's a book!

5. Deciding between e-books and paper books.

E-books are not without their charm. They give you the ability to carry an entire library with you at all times, so you're never caught without a book to read. But there's nothing like the smell and feel of an actual book in your hands. I love smelling new books just as much as I love smelling old books!

6. Deciding which books to bring on vacation.

The first struggle with this is just how many books to bring! You don't want to bring too many because it makes your bags too heavy, but you don't want to bring too few, because running out of books is a travesty! Then you have to struggle with bringing your favorites, with the risk of them getting damaged, or the new ones, that you may not be in the mood to read. Ugh.

7. The pain of finishing a good book.

I love reading, but I never want the book to end for this very reason. The endings can leave you happy and solved inside, but it's so sad because now the story is over. The only solution is to read another book, preferably one in the same series, and get stuck in the same cycle as before! You want all the characters to be happy, but you'd also just love to continue reading their happy ending.

8. The triplicate pain of finishing a good series.

This is where "Book Hangover" hits, and it's awful. It lingers for days because you've been fully absorbed into this world for so long that when it's completed you just feel empty inside. I personally grow so attached to the characters that my heart aches to not have them around anymore. Note: The "book hangover" gets worse the longer the series is.

9. Wanting to read the book before seeing the movie.

If there's a movie coming out, and they note that it's based on a book, you suddenly have to read the book. Especially because the book is basically always better. It doesn't matter what movie/book it is, it's worth reading if you're going to see the movie.

10. Comparing your books to their movie adaptations.

I get so excited and so worried when I hear that one of my favorite books is being adapted for the big screen. There's so much that needs to go into the movie, they never can fit it all in. Which is fine - I understand the length thing - but it's so sad when they miss such a crucial part of the book within the movie. Admittedly, it is fun to argue about what should have been in the movie.

11. Buying new books when you have a huge stack at home.

I'm so bad about this. I see books all the time that I want to read but I know that I have a massive pile of books at home that I need to read before anything else. That never seems to stop me though. Though, more often than not, the money, or lack-there-of, is the primary obstacle to beat in getting a brand new book.

I know that's not all the struggles us bookworms go through, but it's definitely the beginning of them. There are always more struggles that come along with people so obsessed by reading. It's a pretty great hobby to have though, so I don't think we're too bad off. I'd say that bookworms are pretty great.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
