Being a “booknerd” is something I am completely and unabashedly proud of. There are so many places I have been, people I have met, and just things I have learned from the countless books my nose has been stuck in year after year. You get to live so many different lives when you read anyway, so what’s not to love about it? While being a booknerd though you do end up with quite a few issues and situations that need handling that only fellow booknerds would be able to understand.
1. All of your money goes to books, especially when you found a series you like.
I’m a sucker for books that are in a series. Maybe it’s because I hate when books just end without giving me more information about what happened, maybe it’s because I’m always too attached to certain characters to let go, or maybe it’s just because I love how the author writes. Regardless, I will constantly purchase books if I think I’m going to like them and when that book is in a series I will always buy the other books. It’s a bad habit and can be incredibly expensive, but there’s also something wonderful about just holding the book in your hands and being the first person to read that one.
2. You become so attached to characters that when your book does end you can get really upset for a few days.
This is something that happens in almost all of the books I read. After spending a few days in this one characters head, getting to know them and learning with them, the book just ends and you no longer have any knowledge of where the rest of their story went. It can be so heartbreaking, almost as heartbreaking as when your favorite character dies.
3. When your favorite character dies in a book you start to lose interest in it.
Why, why do authors do this to us?
4. If you get really wrapped up in a book, you can pull an all-nighter trying to finish it and really figure out what’s going on.
I’ve done this countless times. I’ll start reading semi-early in the night and then suddenly it’s two in the morning and I have to be up at six. Oh well, sometimes it’s worth it though, plus there’s always coffee to help you chug along.
5. Books are better than people, sometimes.
If you’re like me, being by yourself and just doing what you want to do is one of your favorite things. That also leads to you rather reading the book you’re currently enthralled with than going out with friends. Plus, you don’t have to look nice to hangout in bed and read.
6. Reading is an amazing distraction from other things you’re worrying about.
In all reality, reading is one of the best escapes when you’re having a bad day. Opening a book up can bring into a whole new place and make you focus on other things than the problems you currently are dealing with. It’s so relaxing and can make you feel much better.
As a booknerd I fully embrace all the things that come with it. From staying up all night to finish a great book, being fully invested in your characters, spending money when you shouldn’t, and just escaping into a new world, reading is just awesome. I suggest everyone find a book that can really interest them and give them the experience that all us booknerds get to have all the time.
