11 Stages Of Missing Recruitment

The FOMO gets real.

11 Stages Of Missing Recruitment

This last week was one of the hardest weeks I've had while I was abroad. I never thought missing recruitment would be so tough, but as I can attest, the FOMO gets real.

1. Denial.

You’ll be fine you say. You’re glad you don’t have to stay up all night and suffer through the long rounds you say.

2. The Facebook page.

During recruitment, you’ll start getting all the notifications of all the reminders, followed by a slight pang in your heart. You probably try to deny the hurt in your heart, but it starts creeping up

3. Absent friends.

Recruitment is crappy, sometimes, and takes everything out of you. I know I dropped off the planet last year during it, and completely understand. But once recruitment picks up your friends suddenly disappear, and you can't text them constantly, anymore.

4. Try to get all the details.

Desperately texting everyone, “What’s happening? Tell me everything.” Only to be met with silence because they are in the middle of a round. You can’t blame these people but you just want to know.

5. Neediness.

You start to get depressed about being gone and just want to text and FaceTime everyone to ask about recruitment. One minute you’re sad you’re not there, and then you are reminded of the long hours and the fact that you are abroad and things start to get a little better.

6. The photos.

Pictures of your sisters before the round start popping up all over social media, and you just want to be in them so much.

7. Pref night.

The best night, where you are reminded about how much you love your sorority and your sisters. Across the ocean, you so badly want to be a part of it and it seems so far away.

8. Bid Day set up.

The Snapchat stories. Ugh. I had to turn off my phone my FOMO got so bad. Your sisters are so excited and you just want to be outside dancing and jumping up and down with everyone.

9. New babies.

The bids are released and everyone is so excited your updates are gone. And all you want to do is meet all the new sisters and be at bid day, the best day of the entire year

10. Constant refreshing of social media.

Where did everyone go? Who got bids to where? What were the themes? Hello? Anyone? I just want to be there for bid day.

11. Absolute love for your sorority.

If there's one thing missing that recruitment and bid day has given me, it is a new love for my sisters. My constant Face-Timing into bid day and updates from friends have made me feel so loved. I know I found my home in Theta and I absolutely cant wait to get to see my favorite people when I get home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
