There comes a time in everyone's live where they discover something magical that changes their entire lives. For some, this is the multi-million dollar hobby that sets you for life or the love of your life. For others, it is the beginning of a wild and emotional ride after listening to a soundtrack from a smash hit musical know as "Hamilton: An American Musical."
1. Alexander Hamilton?
This is an innocent time. You've heard about the soundtrack and the show, but you have no idea what lies in wait. You are unsure about a show about a dead founding father, but everyone is going crazy over it, so there must be something of worth.
2. Okay, this is cool.
You've listened to a few songs and you are really feeling it. The lyrics are catchy and the rhythms are superb. You aren't entirely sure whether this is meant to be a comedy because the thought of the American Revolution set to hip-hop is pretty funny. This feels like it will be a comedy though.
3. There are a lot of songs, so I need to listen to this on repeat.
Are you the dedicated sort who likes to commit all the lyrics to memory? Do you just want to make sure that every song gets attention? There are 46 songs, so repeat is probably a must. Nothing bad will come from that. Just gonna listen to it for a week.
4. Daveed Diggs is pretty spectacular.
He can play Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. Guns and Ship is a stellar songs and you marvel at Daveed Digg's mastery of the English language and the ability to rap coherently at a high speed. Now you are also at the point that you know the names of all the actors. Everyone is amazing deserving of every once of praise.
5. The Schuyler Sisters = goals.
Everybody needs a loyal group of friends, or a squad. The Schuyler sisters - Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy - are the definition of a squad. They stick together, help one another, and in the case of Angelica, become the best wingmen to exist. You marvel at their ability to be there when needed.
6. HERCULES MULLIGAN
Every song deserves to be sung with emotion. When you hear the yell of "HERCULES MULLIGAN!" you get pumped up and start laying down lyrics with the music. This is an album full of emotion and you are constantly giving your best.
7. These are tears now.
You've made it to the point where "Quiet Uptown" makes you very, very sad. You tear up when you listen to Alexander sing about life after his son dies. You don't even know how you will make it through the rest of the album.
8. This isn't a comedy.
Hamilton isn't a joke to you anymore. You've listened to the album countless times and you know most of the lyrics. You might have even went to Wikipedia to see what these people actually look like. But one thing is for certain, Hamilton is no longer that funny. Tears have been involved.
9. Chuckling nervously when someone asks what type of music you like.
How do you explain that you have listened to nothing but Hamilton since you discovered it and that your taste in music is centered around one topic? You may have tried to listen to other music like the new Adele album or even the radio, but nothing is satisfying anymore.
10. There is always time for a Hamilton reference.
You know who your real friends are - real friends listen to Hamilton and make references every at every possible moment. Do you other friends and family hate the mention of Hamilton? Is there an audible groan every time the first song plays? Do you often hear the question of "How many time are you going to listen to this?"
11. No other music exists.
Everything is Hamilton. Who is Adele? Beyonce was a big deal? Where has my life gone and what I am doing? How come no else knows who Lin-Manuel Miranda is?
