11 Signs You Grew Up With Your Life Revolving Around Horses

The horse world definitely isn't meant for everyone. In fact, there's just that special breed of people who belong to this lifestyle. These are the horse-crazy people who just can't seem to get enough. Maybe you begged for a horse until your parents finally gave in. Or maybe riding was forced onto you at an early age because your parent(s) grew up riding. Either way, you were hooked that first time you sat in a saddle, and there was no looking back. So here are 11 signs that you grew up with your life revolving around your horse.

1. You probably spent most, if not all, your weekends at horse shows.

Congratulations! The excitement of that very first horse show was all it took. Now you know where all the money in that college savings fund went.

2. Resulting in little to no social life outside your circle of fellow horse-loving friends.

Your friends from school might have always asked you where it is that you disappear to on the weekends since you always decline their invitations to hang out. You also often spend your Friday nights bathing and clipping your horse and cleaning tack in preparation for the show instead of sitting under those Friday night lights. On the other hand, your barn friends became some of your best friends.

3. All vacations are planned around horse show schedules and riding lessons.

Of course, you absolutely can't miss out on a horse show for family vacation. That would just be absurd! Your parents would probably have never heard the end of it if they hadn't planned around shows anyway. So, each year they sit down with a horse show schedule as they try to book something. There's still the possibility that you all cut the vacation a day or two short to rush back for a show the next morning.

4. Or you find a horse show at the beach.

This is the best of both worlds, especially for those of you who don't like to leave your horse behind for a week or more. Now you can enjoy part of your day relaxing on the beach and the other half in the show ring. Does it really get any better than that? I really don't think so.

5. Your home is decorated with all your awards.

Ribbons are most likely strung in rows around your childhood bedroom to the point that you can't even see what color the walls are. Remember that bedside table in your room and the lamp on top of it and the picture frame hanging above it? Yeah, those were all part of your winnings. And that might be just a small portion, as well. Part of your collection may have even been displayed in your college dorm due to lack of space at home

6. Your parents spent more money on vet and farrier bills in a year than they spent on a lifetime of doctor's visits for you.

If your horse's step is even the slightest bit off, you better believe the vet has already been called. However, you had better have a broken leg before your parents take you to the doctor. Otherwise, you'll let the issue work itself out.

7. You find yourself talking to your horse as if he can understand you.

Who knows? Maybe he did actually understand you and now knows your whole life story. Or maybe he had no clue what you were rambling about. Either way, he acted as your therapist for many years and provided the best set of listening ears.

8. The only time you were willing to get up early was anything horse-related.

Your parents had to drag you out of bed for school every single morning. But when it came to getting up for a horse show or anything horse-related, you were awake, dressed and ready before your parents' alarm even went off.

9. Most of your conversations lead back to talking about your horse or the latest horse show.

You love your horse so much, so why wouldn't you want to talk about him all the time? Surely your friends want to hear all about how you had to chase him for three hours in the field before finally catching him, or the play by play of your last horse show, or just how cute your horse is. Right? Don't they? Just keep telling yourself that...

10. Barn/show clothes become your regular clothing despite the weird looks you receive in public.

Thank the Lord that Ralph Lauren has started making and selling pants that look like riding pants. Maybe I won't get as many strange looks when I stop in Target after leaving the mall, or when we all go out to eat after a horse show. Because frankly, the strange looks are getting old. I've seen people wear some much stranger things anyway.

11. Your car looks like a portable tack shop 99 percent of the time.

Any possible horse-related items including fly spray, treats, shampoo, riding boots, crops, blankets and maybe even a saddle can be found in the back end of your car.

Here you have it, folks. If you for some reason made it this far and didn't grow up around horses, then you probably think I'm crazy. However, if you spent every waking moment growing up obsessing over your horse, then you probably understand the struggle. This lifestyle obviously isn't meant for everybody—just the (horse) crazy.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
