As humans, we have a big mission: to make it to Heaven. This is not an easy task as we have been weighed down by sin. The things of this world distract us from God making us forget that this is not our home. Our home is Heaven. This task is hard but not impossible. The Saints are people who have made it to Heaven. They are people who were tested by the world like us and rose victoriously! Here are 11 saints and almost saints all college students should learn about.
1. St. John Paul II
St. John Paul II is not only a great role model and had a great devotion to Mary but the is a Saint who lived in our time! He is a reminder that Saints are not a thing of the past that they are still being made today!
2. Blessed Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa is not a Saint yet but she is on her way! Most people do not know this but she suffered for 40 years not being able to feel th Lord at all. During this time she was still giving her life fully to God.
3. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Another almost Saint he was around our age when he died. Frassati was a college students who served God by just doing what he loved. He climbed mountains, secretly did things for his town at night, and brought his friends to Adoration.
4. St. Rose of Lima
St. Rose was a beautiful woman so beautiful her name was changed to Rose. She knew she wanted to give her heart to God so she did not want to tempt men with her beauty. She then rubbed pepper on her face to cover her beauty. She is a great example of humility.
5. St. Therese of Lisieux
If you read the book The Story of a Soul, you will realize she might be as close to perfect as possible.
6. St. Joseph
The most chaste spouse of Mary. He is a great Saint to call on for intersessions on chastity and on relationships.
7. St. Augustine
St. Augustine was a wild young man. He one day opened the bible on a certain verse and decided to completely change his life. He shows us anyone can change their life and become a Saint.
8. St. Anne
St. Anne was the mother of Mary. This means she raised the woman who raised Jesus so she obviously an amazing woman.
9. St. Kateri Tekakwitha
She converted when she was 20 and was treated very badly. This reminds me of how some Christians are treated today but we still need to keep the faith.
10. St. Maria Goretti
Maria Guarded her purity even to death. She was killed by a boy she did not want to have sex with. Today sex is given away so freely she is a great example of purity.
