I'm partial to the term "squad" when talking about my best friends because we really are an impenetrable unit. Every time two of us walk into a room without the other one, there are comments of "Hey, where's the third musketeer?" or "What happened to your third leg?"
At this point, we're always together and it's a beautiful thing. There are two shoulders to cry on, two people to lift you up no matter what, and one hysterical group message. In my life, I've had relationships with friends that ended on less than good terms, and I think we all have.
Here are my two best friends, my squad, Jordan and Ashley.
These two really came to me at a time in my life when I needed a friend the most, and instead of one, I was lucky enough to get two. They were friends for years before me, but they took me in like I'd been there forever. I never felt like I didn't belong or I was in the way, but I had gained a new family. We work together, we've lived together, and have essentially morphed into one ridiculous human being. Anyone with two best friends knows the feeling. #SquadGoals.
Here are the reasons why having two best friends is, well, the best.
1. You know that if there's a sub-tweet in the midst, there are two pairs of eyes on the lookout.
2. Everything about your sleepovers becomes a classic story in your friend group, even though you're adults.
3. When you're feeling down and out, you know there'll be a chorus of uplifting compliments showered upon you in the group text.
4. You're spared the trouble of picking bridesmaids. You'll take turns being each others' maid of honor.
5. You can communicate without words, and they know that stare means that kid on the other side of the room really needs to stop talking.
6. You've got three houses, and three people you call "mom."
7. The three of your social media accounts are always flooded with mentions of each other.
8. There's a tiny angel and devil on your shoulder, one friend encouraging you to do that extra Jell-O shot and the other shouting "NO!" and shuffling you home from the bar.
9. You know that your best friends are like a good bra-- supportive and comforting.
10. You never doubt your squad's status as independent women.
11. All ridiculous fights aside, you always have the confidence that your best friends care for you through thick and thin, and you don't have to go through life alone.
I think my best friends deserve all the love in the world, and so do yours. To all the Rachels, Monicas, and Phoebes out there, keep being #SquadGoals.
