As summer starts to unwind, there has been a lot of tension and anxiety around becoming an incoming freshman at college. Sometimes I need to blast music from my favorite band — Fall Out Boy.
1. After a three-year hiatus, they make a comeback.
When fans thought Fall Out Boy was gone, BOOM. They make a return stronger than ever. After releasing "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark," immediately they announced their new album,"Save Rock and Roll," at the same time. Since then, they've been constantly touring and released another popular album called "American Beauty/American Psycho."
2. There are movie references in their songs.
Maybe I've noticed this because I love movies. I think it's cool that they have a lot of movie references. The 2005 song title "In All the Gin Joints in All the World," is a quote from the classic film "Casablanca." Now 10 years later, their most recent hit "Uma Thurman" has a ton of "Pulp Fiction" references. I mean, c'mon, who wouldn't want to dance like Uma Thurman?
3. They have long song titles.
Their long song titles may have been from their earlier albums, but that doesn't make them any less entertaining to read. "Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued" and "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You)" are two of many long titles.
4. They are from outside of Chicago.
Chicago is a beautiful city, and Fall Out Boy is beautiful band. Maybe that's just my bias speaking considering I love the band, and I'm also from a suburb of Chicago. It is true, though, that the Chicago area has produced a lot of creativity and talented people.
5. Each album stands on its own.
Although they are a pop-punk/rock group, all of their albums have remained individual. They each have their own sound and yet still vibe like a Fall Out Boy album.
6. Pete Wentz multitasks.
Pete Wentz not only writes lyrics and plays bass for Fall Out Boy, but he also has other things he does on the side. He runs DCD2 records which includes bands like Panic at the Disco, New Politics and Cobra Starship. He is also a host for the tattoo TV show "Best Ink." On top of that, he even wrote a book.
7. The song writing process is unique.
Pete Wentz, the bass player, actually writes the lyrics for the band. Patrick Stump, the lead singer, focuses more on the music behind it. Bands should be working together to create the music, but I just find it interesting on how the member's instruments doesn't necessarily limit them to what they can do. They are just that talented!
8. They have grown as musicians.
I've been a fan of Fall Out Boy for many years now. It's crazy to see how they used to sound when they performed and what they sound like now. They have definitely improved greatly as performers.
9. Fall Out Boy to Fall Out Men.
Don't let their their name fool you. They were a popular band when they were in their 20s, and now 10 years later, they're in their 30s. With that, some of them even have kids. It's crazy how time has flown by.
10. They have a sense of humor.
Just look up random YouTube videos and interviews with them. I promise you won't be disappointed.
11. Their music videos are gold.
Whether you like funny, symbolic, creative or downright gory music videos, Fall Out Boy simply has it all. Not to mention they have a music video for each of their songs on the album "Save Rock and Roll" on their YouTube channel. They even have a 40- minute uncut version of their series called the "Young Blood Chronicles."
