School. Some people dread it. Some people love it. I completed my freshman year of college in April and while the breaks been nice, I am so relieved that a fresh new school year is right around the corner, and here's why.
1. Roomates
At home I have my own room, and you would think that would be ideal. But being home I miss my roommates more than anything. I miss my roommates stupid alarm going off at 4 a.m. because she had a paper to finish for her 8 a.m. or coming back to the room after an awful day to someone to talk to. I miss being forced to watch "The Bachelor" because that was her show (she got me hooked if you were wondering). My own room is pretty lonely without her if you ask me.
2. Moving Out
Being home with the fam is nice, for about 4 minutes. Then you get hit with some chores or responsibilities of being home and you're just like "uh, I'll take my 15x15 dorm again please"
3. No more summer jobs
No more 9 jobs at a time to build up a savings for the year. It's time to focus on the school work and keep maybe one or two jobs so you have a steady income.
4. Your friends are three doors down, literally
Third door on the right actually. Your friends are right down the hall and it makes a Netflix binge session or a quick vent session way easier then when you're home. Plus, some friends you meet at school may live quite far from you regularly.
5. You eat healthier
This may be a stretch for some people, but I actually eat WAY healthier at school than when I'm home. When I'm home my (Italian) mother makes home cooked meals every night which is great. But many of them include lots of carbs (pasta and bread) and I find myself actually eating way worse than during the year. Also, I'm broke during the year. I don't waste money on groceries, please.
6. Motivated
Being at school is somehow a motivation on its own. It's like a mindset, you're there and you know you are there for a reason. So you buckle down and get crap done. I can't explain why, I just know it happens.
7. More social
With your crazy work schedule and everyone living slightly far away, it's not as easy to see your friends and enjoy yourself. While at school almost everyone you could possibly want to see is in about a 2.5 radius around you, so hanging out is way easier to fit in. Even if it's only for 20 minutes, it's okay because no one drove a half hour or longer to be there.
8. Greek life
I know Greek Life isn't for everyone, but it's a large part of most universities. Sorority Formal Recruitment begins with the start of the year and frats are throwing parties to find potential new members. Even if Greek life isn't necessarily your thing, there's something you can find to do because of it.
9. Satisfaction
There's nothing quite like the satisfaction you get out of passing a hard quiz or test. Actually, there's nothing like passing any quiz or test, even if it's the syllabus quiz.
10. Less BS
Being back home around your high school friends after a year of being a part might cause some crap that you don't want to deal with sometimes. It makes you think about how much easier your friendships at school are, especially with the people you live with. At school you're able to focus on you more, and just do your own thing.
11. Life is normal again
Going back to school means getting back into a routine, getting back to normal. And I for one cannot wait.
