For a while, I thought Louisiana had decided to skip winter this year. Record high temperatures in November had led me to stubbornly wearing my boots, even in nearly 80 degrees. Finally though, it is here; the cold temperatures, at least for Louisiana’s standards, that ushers in a season that has many things we are all looking forward to. Cold weather is not just about the decreasing temperatures and the gusty winds that make you pull your scarf tighter around your neck; it is also about the whole host of activities that come along with the season and make it one of the best to experience.

1. No Humidity

The best part of no humidity: your hair stays just as you worked so hard to make it in the morning. Instead of walking out and your makeup and hair immediately being ruined by the blanket of water that is Louisiana in warm weather, you can actually make it through the day with your look still in tact.

2. Cuddling and Watching Netflix

This may or may not be the best part of cold weather. Cuddling underneath piles of blankets and watching Friends is pretty much my winter goals.

3. Making the Switch from Iced to Hot Coffee

...or hot tea or hot chocolate. As long as it is hot and has caffeine, it'll work just fine.

4. The End of the Semester is Now in Sight

For better or for worse, we've only got three weeks left! The days of begging for all those extra credit assignments, drinking more coffee than your body can process, and attempting to figure out your grades on Moodle have begun.

5. Getting to Wear Leggings and Scarves

These are the days where we can wear clothes as comfortable as pajamas and actually get away with it. Also whether or not we haven't done laundry in weeks no longer matters, as we can continue to wear the same black leggings every day and no one ever has to know.

6. Attending Bonfires and Holiday Parties

Bonfires and holiday parties both have a way of bringing people together and making this the cold weather completely worth it. What's better than sitting around with your favorite people and roasting marshmallows? Or dressing up in that ugly Christmas sweater you got from Goodwill and making fun of your coworkers?

7. It's Finally Colder Outside then Inside

Warm weather has a way of making restaurants, college libraries, your roommate all think they need to set the thermostat to negative 20 degrees. Now that it is finally cold outside, they have decided the inside temperature bearable once again.

8. Bugs have Decided to Leave Us Alone

No more mosquito bites, no more love bugs ruining your car windshield. For at least a few months, we are bug free!

9. Eating Real Food at Thanksgiving

You can pretend you don't ever have to go back to the nightmare that is the cafeteria as you're sitting around stuffing yourself full of homemade sweet potato casserole, grandma's famous pumpkin pie, and real meat that hasn't come straight out of the freezer.

10. Shaving is No Longer Required

We all know it's true. Knowing your legs won't be seeing the light of day for the next few months is the best excuse to throw out those razors.

11. Drinking out of Starbucks Holiday Cups

Oh oops, never mind.

We are almost to the end of the semester, and we have survived so far! Let's enjoy the weather and make the best of the month of school we have left.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
