Summer break is almost ending and that means that school is lurking around the corner. In high school the idea of summer ending equaled all the fun ending too. This year, however, I find myself getting excited when I think about returning to college. The difference I noticed is that when I thought back about high school I was always thinking about the classes I was taking, when I think about college I think about the life I have build there. That's why I have 11 reasons why I am excited about going back to my college, John Carroll University.

1. Being reunited with the squad

I'm not going to lie, this is the main reason I want to return to campus. I have so much to share with all of my friends and they with me. I tried to stay in contact with some of them over the summers, but I wouldn't call those attempts rather successful.

2. Dinners in the caf

Okay just to be clear, I don't miss caf food, I miss my dinners there. The difference? Let's just say that the food isn't high quality, but the conversations are. It's the best time to catch up with your friends and unapologetically stare at my fellow collegiates.

3. Einstein's bagels

I've tried bagels at home, but it's just not the same. I miss you, Einstein's, with your long lines and all.

4. Warrensville

I regret going all the time, but I keep going every single weekend.

5. B-side

To you I say the same as I said to Warrensville.

6. Fitness classes

Nothing beats attending Zumba with your friends.

7. Wasting all my dining dollars way too soon

I already know that the tween and Starbucks are waiting to take all my dining dollars.

8. Hanging out on the quad

No explanation necessary.

9. Late night conversations with the roommate

This is when the truth comes out.

10. Making new friends

No matter where or how you meet them, new friends are always welcome.

11. The atmosphere

The small campus where everyone knows everyone, which is a blessing and a curse all the same. The beautiful buildings without clocks and hot water, but crosses galore. It's John Carroll, y'all.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
