Napping in college is a necessity.

Before I went to college, I never napped. I used to tell people I did not know how to nap; but, as my second semester of my freshman year in college comes to an end, I have become an avid napper. Napping is vital to a college student's success and sanity.

1. I went to bed super late, like 4 in the morning late.

Whether I am talking to friends from home or watching TV with my roommates, the time sometimes just slips away from me. I end up staying awake for much longer than anticipated so a nap the next day just makes sense.

2. I do not want to do any of the work that I have.

The best way to procrastinate as a college student is to nap. I get to catch up on sleep while avoiding all of my obligations.

3. There is nothing better to do than to take a nap in between classes.

If you're like me and you have an 8:25-10:25 a.m. class but then nothing until 2 p.m., you have a little less than four hours to do what? Nap! In that time, I can't go off campus or do anything that productive, so I take a nap.

4. Sometimes I am up the night before pulling an all-nighter.

If I have an important project, paper, or presentation due I will most likely be pulling an all-nighter. The next day after as much coffee as i can drink, I will be taking a nap; at that point it becomes a necessity.

5. I feel sick.

Feeling sick while in college is one of the worst feelings. All I want to do when I feel sick is go home to my own bed so instead of buying a $500 plane ticket, I just take a nap.

6. ANGER.

Sometimes I get so angry that the only thing that will calm me down is a nap. After a fight with my roommate or boyfriend, I'm boiling over with anger and the only thing that will help is a nap. It soothes me and helps put the situation into perspective.

7. After a long day, I deserve a nap.

College and busy should be synonyms. In just one day I can have three classes, two meetings, a research study, and practice for club softball. Even though practice is finished before 8 p.m., I'm exhausted. I will come home, shower, nap for two hours, and then focus on the rest of my responsibilities.

8. Boredom.

Although some days can be busy, others can be very boring. I may only have one class and then nothing to do for the rest of the day. I might as well nap with that time.

9. Avoid people or awkward situations.

When in doubt, nap it out. If two of my roommates get into an argument I do not want to be in the same room as either of them, because all they will do is try and get me on their side when I really just don't care. I will hibernate in my room and take a nap until things cool down.

10. Homesickness.

All of my friends went to school near home. Although some of them are four or so hours away from home, they still see each other often. Seeing them on social media makes me homesick because all I want is to be with them. When I start to feel homesick, I solve it by sleeping.

11. Naps are a small reboot for my system.

Sometimes naps, even the shortest of ones, are good for my body. They can make me feel more awake and ready for whatever the rest of the day has to throw at me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
