The app, Pokémon Go, has swept the nation and has quickly become one of the most popular apps in the world. Many people, almost 20 million, have downloaded this game that seems to have the perfect mixture of fitness and nostalgia. The game includes the first generation of little monsters made by The Pokémon Company. The app gives you the ability to roam around and capture all of the separate Pokémon with tiny spherical items known as pokéballs with the end game of "catch[ing] 'em all." But whilst in the process of trying to catch them all, people have run into many awkward incidents. Here are just a few moments that many players of this game can relate to:
1. Running into another player.
We've all had that moment when we were in the midst of tossing pokéballs at the little monsters, but then accidentally run into another person playing the game. It's awkward, but you nod at each other and go your separate ways like it never happened.
2. Continually missing a pokémon and the frustration that manifests itself through random grunts of frustration.
You're in a public place trying to catch something trivial, like a Magikarp, and for some reason, the dang thing won't stay in your pokéball. You violently grunt/sigh but then realize that there are actual people around you.
3. Accidentally walking off a cliff while playing.
Sometimes, the game takes you to places, like the bottom of a cliff. Just follow the first requests that pops up when you open the app and stay aware of your surroundings to avoid the fate of these two men. Getting that Pikachu isn't worth death.
4. When you are super excited to hatch an egg and you hatch something like a Pidgey or Rattata.
Don't get me wrong, these pokémon have great evolutions, but walking two to 10 kilometers for the most common pokémon in the game makes you feel like you wasted all of your time and effort for nothing.
5. When you run into a pokémon that you haven't caught before and you realize you have zero pokéballs to catch it with.
This is the bane of my existence. I don't even live near a pokéstop to restock on items either so it's doubly bad. You don't want to spend real money on the game but really want to catch more of the little digital monsters.
6. When your job gets in the way of your game.
This man quit his job to catch all of the pokémon. I mean the app is great, but you need money to provide yourself with basic necessities like food and water. But if you've got enough saved, go for it. Have yourself your own little pokémon adventure while trying to become a master.
7. That moment when you see one in a cemetery and want to catch it but are not sure if it is legal to go to a cemetery just to catch pokémon.
Apparently ghost pokémon frequent cemeteries, naturally. But to be honest, you aren't sure how respectful it is to go to a cemetery to catch 'em all. You don't want a real ghost following you around because you disrespected it. There are just some places where the game just shouldn't be played.
8. When you try to take over a Pokémon gym, but after your battle, someone inserts theirs in before you get the chance to.
You win the entire gym battle. But in the brief moment where the gym shows u as empty and you have to claim it, someone else places their pokémon in before you have the chance to. It's worse when that someone is from another team.
9. When you get stabbed, but pokémon is life
This man got physically assaulted with a knife, but then continued to play the game. Only after he satisfied his food and pokémon cravings, did he go to the hospital. Now that's dedication right there.
10. When there is a stampede of people trying to get a pokémon.
A rarer pokémon shows up occasionally during gameplay, but when other people catch wind of it, they come running. A pokémon-crazed stampede is definitely not one that I'd like behind me.
11. That moment when you are out with friends, but all you want to do is catch 'em all.
You go out with your friends intending to just have a nice lunch or something, but your phone is calling to you from your pocket and the urge to play the game manifests.
This game seems to have lots of potential for the future and is certainly been quite successful so far and it has only been two weeks since its release. Definitely encourage you to try out the new app. And to all you people already playing, keep doing you, but do so responsibly.
