11 Perks Of Being "One Of The Guys"
Morgan Lerch

In high school and now college I've made mostly guy friends. Some girls may think I'm crazy for hanging out with the guys while they play video games for five hours straight but I honestly don't mind. I am in no way a total tom boy and I don't think you need to be to be friends with mostly guys. They are so willing to help with anything and although you may have to fight them for your food there are a few perks to hanging with the boys.

1. You get invited to boys night.

Ah, boys night. This usually consists of a campfire, video game binging, or just going night fishing. For what ever reason they seem to assume that I already know I'm invited to a night with no girlfriends. When, well that just doesn't make any sense. It just proves that they see me as a dude.

2. You never feel unsafe when you go out.

I have never gone to a party and felt unsafe because well I usually show up with a minimum of four guys. The creeps aren't going to go out of their way to hit on the girl that is surrounded by her body guards.

3. Their compliments are always sincere.

Most girls will tell you that something looks nice just to get a compliment in return. I just cannot handle the fakeness of that. If a guy tells you your hair looks nice, well, they actually mean it!

4. You can get them to do girly things with you.

Believe it or not, I got my guy friends into face masks and the Biore pore strips. They love them!

5. They're always down to get food.

It is NEVER too late for pizza and wings.

6. They can't even tell if you're wearing makeup.

I don't know how, but they are totally clueless when it comes to this. So, why waste the time and effort to put makeup on?

7. They're great at giving a guy's viewpoint.

Men and women are practically a different species when it comes to some things. It's nice to have someone with the same brain as your boyfriend to help you figure out what that "K" really means.

8. You will always be entertained.

Some of the stuff that comes out of their mouths....my goodness.

9. They will be there in a heartbeat to save you from trouble.

Whether it be a car that needs towed, you need help moving, or a boy was mean to you. My friends can get protective and will not hesitate to do anything to help.

10. There is hardly any drama.

Girls are catty and we all know it, guys are easy peesy!

11. They prepare you for anything gross or weird any boyfriend could do.

Once you get close with a group of guys, there are no limits on what they will talk about or do in front of you. It's a nice precursor to getting into a serious relationship with someone because well, nothing they say or do will gross you out. You've already been desensitized!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
