13 Things That Happen When Your Best Friend Is A Guy

Having a guy best friend is definitely the best.

Growing up, I was always "one of the guys." Though I had female friends, my stronger connections were always with the males. I guess that's just how I'm wired. So when I headed off for college, it was no surprise that I would bond quicker with the guys I met than I would the girls. By my fifth day, I was already talking sports and joking around with the guys I met, and cringing over the drama the girls would talk about. Within the first two weeks of my freshman year, I met a boy who quickly became my best friend. I quickly noticed that when a guy becomes your best friend, some things happen, such as:

1. He's brutally honest, even when you don't want to hear it.

If you're being a little moody, or he doesn't like your shirt, you're going to know it.

2. You become his wing (wo)man.

You give him pep talks and encourage him to go talk to girls. You're also the best wing man he's ever had.

3. You eat way too much food together.

He never bats an eye when you start your fourth taco or grab that third slice of pizza.

4. You discuss each other's relationships and everything else in unnecessary detail.

You know EVERYTHING about anything, including each others sex lives, and that's totally normal.

5. "She's more cute-attractive than hot-attractive."

You've had this conversation many, many, many times when he points out a girl.

6. You use each other's language and phrases.

You sound exactly the same.

7. You say the meanest things to each other, but never mean it.

"You are the biggest idiotic, ugly, moron I've ever met."

8. Spontaneous adventures are always done together.

He's always down to go climb a mountain with you.

9. Your significant others get jealous.

Whenever they find out you're hanging out together for the fourth time this week, they are rolling their eyes and in need of a little reassurance.

10. People always think you're dating.

Then you are absolutely astonished when they find out it's never crossed either of your minds.

11. Some people are fully convinced you'll end up together in the long run.

They are convinced time will change your minds.

12. You are always there for each other, no matter what.

You support one another through the roughest times, and you are willing to drop everything when the other needs you.

13. No matter what, you know he's the best friend you'll ever have, and you cherish one another.

Nothing will ever change your friendship.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
