1. An Affair to Remember
Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr are relationship goals in this old-time romance. They plan to meet at the Empire State Building after they meet and fall in love on a ship. One of the most iconic love affairs plays out on screen, and your view on pink champagne will never be the same.
2. Sleepless in Seattle
(Helpful hint: This movie references An Affair to Remember, so it’s best to watch them back to back.)
Three words: Hanks and Ryan. One of the most iconic duos in film history gets together for this magical 1990s romance. Hanks’ character, Sam, is recently widowed and uproots his life with his son to Seattle. His son Jonah, AKA the most adorable kid in the world, calls a radio station to find his dad a new wife.
3. Love Actually
This one has pretty much every famous British actor in one movie. With multiple romances playing out and intertwining, you can’t help but relate to one or more of the characters in the movie. Oh, and if that didn’t hook you, it’s set during Christmas time.
4. Bridget Jones’s Diary
This movie adaptation of Helen Fielding’s 1996 novel reminds us that you can be a swearing, normal girl, and still get a happy ending. Renee Zellweger is hysterical, charming, and awkward as the title character. Every girl can relate to her on so many levels. She stars opposite Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. No big deal or anything.
5. Pride and Prejudice (2005)
Another movie adaptation of one of the most lovable and iconic novels in history. This movie version does it justice, believe me. Keira Knightley is the witty, bookish, strong Elizabeth Bennet, who slowly falls for Mr. Darcy, played by Matthew Macfadyen. The chemistry between these two is touching and delicate.
6. Emma (1996)
This movie is for the people who play matchmaker for everyone, and meddle in everyone else’s life, but need a little love themselves. This movie is another adaptation of a Jane Austen classic, tells the story of trying to find someone to marry for many different characters, and people end up with different people.
7. Mansfield Park
Here is another Jane Austen adaptation. Can you tell she’s my favorite author? This one’s for the girl who everyone thinks is going to die alone. If you ever need a reminder that there is someone for everyone, this is the one for you.
8. Roman Holiday
Audrey Hepburn plays a freakin' princess in this movie, and falls in love. Is there anything else you could want from a movie? I don’t think so.
9. The Lakehouse
This movie tells the story of Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, who live in the same house at different times, and exchange letters through the lake house’s mailbox. And, if that doesn’t make your heart happy, you will be asking how you can put in an offer for that amazing lake house with all those windows.
10. Shakespeare In Love
Ever wonder what Shakespeare does in his free time when he’s not writing the most iconic plays of all time? Gwyneth Paltrow, that’s who. This movie gives a glimpse into the personal life of William Shakespeare, and whether it’s historically accurate doesn’t really matter.
11. Out of Africa
Another movie adaptation starring Meryl Streep, who moves to meet her husband to begin running a plantation. She soon discovers her husband is unfaithful, and isn’t sure what to do next until she meets a hot hunter played by Robert Redford. Opposites attract in this passionate love affair.
Shout out to my mom for introducing me to all these amazing movies.
