One of my favorite places in the world is Cape May, New Jersey. It is a tradition for my family and I to take trips to the Jersey Shore during the hot summer months. There are so many fun and exciting things to do and enjoy when visiting the peaceful beach town. Here are some of my personal favorites.
1. Sunset on the beach
Enjoy the breathtaking sunset along a quiet and private stretch of beach. Have some ice cream from a local store and watch one of the most spectacular views of mother nature. It's a great photo op.
2. Mini golf
Okay, so who doesn't love mini golf? Play a game with family and friends at Cape May Miniature Golf and enjoy an ice cream cone there, too!
3. Watch the coast guard march
One of my family's favorite things to do when we are in Cape May is to watch the coast guard do their drills along Beach Avenue. Watching them run and do their chants puts you in a patriotic mood. Plus, who doesn't love cute coast guards?
4. Lunch at Hot Dog Tommy's
You are seriously missing out if you don't have a hot dog from Hot Dog Tommy's. Tucked away on a small side street off of Beach Avenue, this place will surely give you an experience to remember. Each customer that orders at the window is made to feel special and will leave with a smile on their face.
5. Live music at Carney's
Want to have a drink and enjoy some live music? Stop in to Carney's on a Friday night and listen to a great cover band or sing some karaoke with friend.
6. Whale watching
See some beautiful birds, dolphins and whales aboard a Cape May cruise ship. The ship departs many times a day so you can experience it at both morning and night. Be on the lookout for sharks and try not to watch "Jaws" before your trip!
7. Trolley tour
If you are an art or history buff like me, take a trolley through town and explore some cool sights of Cape May. There are many types of tours including ghost tours and tours of the beautiful Victorian homes across town.
8. Uncle Bill's Pancake House
You have not experienced a well-rounded trip to Cape May unless you've been to Uncle Bill's. The popular destination overlooks the ocean and has the best breakfast in town!
9. View from the lighthouse
I love to drive at night to the Cape May lighthouse and do the climb all the way up to the top. From up high, you experience the best views of the ocean all while the glistening moon is on full display.
10. Cape May County Zoo
If you are traveling with kids or if you are a kid at heart, you'll certainly enjoy the zoo! It's a fun, lazy day activity where you can take your time enjoying all of the friendly animals.
11. Cape May Winery and Vineyard
If you are over 21 years old, explore the coastal town's gorgeous vineyard. Have a glass of wine, attend a tasting and enjoy the view!
