If you're a psychology major and you're like me, you probably love to read and watch anything that has to do with psychology. Although I haven't read the books in this article, writing this article is kind of selfish of me because these are all the types of books I want to read, but don't have time to. 1."Wintergirls" by Laurie H. Anderson
This book surrounds two best friends, Cassie and Lia who are in compettition with one another to see who can be the thinnest. When Cassie realizes she can't be any thinner, she goes into a dark place. Eventually, because she is so close to her best friend, Cassie's emotions rub off on Lia, and she goes into a dark place as well. 2. "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest" by Ken Kesey
This book is revolves around a patient who goes by the name of Randall Patrick McMurphy. He is a loud, hot-headed person who everyone can't help to love. The second he entered the mental hospital, he took it by storm. Due to his rebellious nature, he smuggles various things into the hospital, such as women, and alcohol. Nurse Ratched, who represents most of the authority in the hospital and McMurphy often go head to head. During the course of the book, Randall tries to get patients to rally with him against Nurse Ratched and other staff. 3. "A Child Called 'It' " by Dave Pelzer
This book involves one of the worst cases of child abuse in California's history. The child's mother, is emotionally unstable, and an alcoholic. In this book, we learn about all of the games she made her son play, which almost ended with him dying. Her son soon realizes, that if he wants to survive, he has to play his mothers games. She no longer considered him a son, but referred to him as an "it." No one knew what he was going through, and the only thing that was keeping him alive was the hope that one day someone would treat him right. 4."Crank" by Ellen Hopkins
This book talks about the struggles of addiction. Kristina, started taking "crank" better known as crystal meth after a visit she had with her estranged father. While on the drug, Kristina discovers her alter-ego named Bree. Unlike Kristina, who is a good girl and does everything she's told, Bree has more of a rebellious side to her. 5."Bruised" by Sarah Skilton
Imogen, who this book focuses around, witnessed a gunman being shot and killed in front of her, after he was holding up a restaurant. Since she has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, it has always made her believe that she was stronger and more responsible than everyone else. Imogen believes that in order to get her life back together she has to get into a fight. She thinks that Ricky, another person who was in the restaurant with her during the hold up, is the one to give her that fight. 6. "Girl Interrupted" by Susana Kaysen
This book surrounds an 18-year-old female who was sent to a mental hospital just after one session with a psychiatrist. In this book, the author Susana Keysen describes the events, and patients so vividly, as if it happened to her. The main character spent two years in the mental hospital with people such as Ray Charles, and others that could afford being cared for in such a facility. 7. "If You Find Me" by Emily Murdoch
After her mother abducted her and her sister 10 years ago, Jessica and Casey are forced to live in an old beaten down camper deep in a national forest. Since their mother is mentally ill, and comes and goes as she pleases, all they have is each other. One day, their mother abandons them, and two strangers arrive. Once they are rescued from the forest, Jessica is enrolled in high school. Still troubled by her past, she feels as if she has to keep her sister close, and her secrets even closer. 8. "The Manufactured Idenity" by Heath Sommer
This book focuses on a wife finding her husband after months of him being lost on a fishing trip. No one thinks she would find him, especially her husband. This book series "The Manufactured Identity" focuses around people who wake to find their loyal counterparts to go missing without a rhyme or reason. 9. "A Beautiful Mind" by Sylvia Nasar
This book focuses on a Professor John Nash who is diagnosed with Schizophrenia. There is also a movie which is based off of this book. Throughout both the movie and the book, we learn about the struggles he goes through, and how he learns to overcome his disorder by telling himself that some of the things that he sees and hears aren't real. At first, it was very difficult for him to realize that he had a disorder, but once he realized it, his life was a bit easier. 10. "The Sociopath Next Door" by Martha Stout
This book defines what a sociopath really is. We often think that a sociopath is only a person who commits violent acts. This book helps its readers understand that a sociopath can be anyone. Your husband, neighbor, or friend. In addition to that, a sociopath could do anything, and not feel one ounce of guilt. 11. "Son Of A Serial Killer" by Jams N. Roses
Detective Summers does not like the cases she usually gets. The cases that deal with child molesters, rapists, and so on. Eventually, she gets the case that she always wanted, the reason she joined the force. The clues that she discovers leads her closer to a person named Ben and his involvement in the case suddenly becomes clear to her.
