I don't know about you, but when I am feeling stressed (which I usually am) I tend to crave certain foods. I don't know why, and I try to fight it--honestly, I do. But sooner or later, the stress eats away at me (pun intended), and I surrender to the food gods.
As of late, I've been feeling the need to drown my school sorrows in breakfast food. And so, if you're cramming for finals or writing a thousand papers or just feel like you need to read a great list, I've compiled the champion breakfast food list to get you through the stress cravings -- because if you can't eat it, you might as well look at pictures of it.
1. Pop-Tarts
Okay, maybe I'm already starting this list off poorly for you health nuts out there, but I LOVE Pop-Tarts. They are so easy to make (eat them straight out of the wrapper! Pop them in the toaster! I've even heard of people freezing them!), and they are delicious. Sure, they're basically cookies, but we're all adults here, and there's nothing wrong with dessert for breakfast!
2. Muffins
I'm a sucker for a good blueberry muffin. A little confectioner's sugar on top gives a sweet crunch with the already sweet taste of muffin. There are so many flavors! Apple. Orange. Strawberry. Cherry White Chocolate. Chocolate Chip. Lemon Poppy Seed. The list literally goes on and on forever...just like my love for muffins.
3. Toast
I. Freakin'. Love. Toast. I don't why, but it seems as though I have been born with an innate yearning for crispy bread. But don't worry -- I'm not a weirdo who eats it plain (sorry, weirdos). I tend to toss some raisin bread into the toaster and then lather it with peanut butter. It is literally heaven on a plate, and my cravings for this food is out of this world.
4. Donuts
I originally had toast at spot #8 and donuts at #9, but then I thought that was ludicrous. As much as I love toast, I don't think it trumps donuts. But I'm sure you're still wondering why donuts are so far down on this list. Honestly, it's just a personal opinion -- there are just breakfast foods I like a little more than donuts. But that doesn't mean that I won't grab a handful of chocolate glazed donut holes if they're just sitting around. Once again, the assortment of flavors donuts come in just adds to the overwhelming goodness they ooze.
5. Eggs
I'm a little "ehh" about eggs. They've never been my aboslute favorite, but I have great memories when it comes to eggs (that sounds super weird, but my parents would make my brother and I scrambled eggs for breakfast on weekends, so I guess it's received a sentimental placement on the list). I prefer them scrambled, but have just started to dip in (pun intended) to the world of sunny side up. No matter how they're cooked, you have to admit that this great source of protein tastes pretty fine on a Saturday morning.
6. Croissant Waffles
Alright. Listen up, people. I think this may be an Ashland-University-only type food, but I'm about to share the best-kept secret of my life. Croissant Waffles. You literally take croissant dough and put it in a waffle maker. Once again, super easy. And it is also super buttery. And beautifully flakey. And tastes amazing with syrup and fruit, and I suggest you try it ASAP. They are out of this world -- trust me. Get yourself a croissant waffle. Now.
7. Breakfast Burritos
I'm visiting eggs again. But this time they're rolled up in a warm wrap and mixed with different veggies and cheese. When I'm not craving something sweet (which is almost never, but it still happens) for breakfast, I'm on the lookout for a breakfast burrito. Not only do they taste great, but if you make them ahead of time and freeze them over night, they're really nice for a busy, on-the-go kind of morning when you can pop them in the microwave and hurry out the door.
8. Cinnamon Rolls
My mouth is watering just thinking about these things. Whoever came up with the idea of baking cinnamon-y dough and then painting it with an icing glaze was an absolute genius. I could probably eat a whole tube of cooked Pillsberry Cinnamon Rolls in one sitting. Someone needs to come up with a way to bake cinnamon rolls in a backpack so I can eat them in class every day.
9. Waffles
It broke my heart to put waffles at #3, but there are just some things I love more...but not much more. The holes in a waffle, flooded with warm syrup, sitting on a glass plate next to a glass of chocolate milk; I'm not lying when I say that is my breakfast every Saturday morning at school (when I have a constant stream of waffle opportunities). There is just something about a crunchy waffle topped with peanut butter that makes me say "mmmm!"
10. French Toast
Just like my Waffle Saturday, I also have French Toast Sunday. When cooked right, I'll fill up my plate with 2-4 pieces of a slightly-crunchy-but-mostly-fluffy pieces of French toast. Topped with fruit and syrup is always a good life choice. But there are ways to make your toast flavored with cinnamon, brown sugar, Nutella . . . I think I have a long list of summer-morning-cooking-experiments ahead of me.
11. Pancakes
We've made it. My absolutely-positively-always-#1-go-to for breakfast. Pancakes. They are fluffy. They are sweet. They are everything I've ever wanted. You can throw some blueberries or bananas or nuts or chocolate into the batter and you've got yourself the perfect breakfast plate.
