Earlier this summer, I attended the most incredibly magical weekend of
my life. Firefly Music Festival brought so much wholeness to my life,
and I was so lucky to spend this weekend full of true, honest happiness
with my dear friend Hannah.
Hannah brings out the creative side of me. She encourages me to be who I
really am, and I'd like to think I'm pretty inspirational and
creative.. I just need a little reminder that I'm good at being those
things. In the excitement leading up to our weekend of camping, music
and disconnecting from the outside world, Hannah and I were
brainstorming ways to make memories that would last a lifetime at
Firefly. We were already planning on seeing my favorite band: The 1975.
We had an array of other shows that we knew would knock our socks off--
Florence and the Machine, Chvrches, Wet, Flume, Kings of Leon, Ellie
Goulding, Mumford and Sons, Blink-182, Noah Gunderson, The Staves,
Deathcab for Cutie, Elle King and so many more. We knew we were going to
enjoy the weekend spent with her older brother, his girlfriend, her
best friend and their family friend. And we knew we were going to enjoy
meeting new people with a fresh perspective on life- the kind that was
missing from our little hometowns.
Hannah tie dyed a tapestry. And I thought the people at the festival
would have some pretty cool outlooks on life. So I had an idea. We
brought the tapestry to every show we went to. We challenged ourselves
to talk to strangers. We asked them what they wanted to do before they
died, and asked them to write it down for us on this beautiful sheet.
Some people write things on top of their bucket list, some people wrote
their life's motto, some people wrote us a note to look back on years
down the road. To be honest, some of the conversations moved me to
tears, but here's what everyone came up with:
