Growing up is not fun, I'm not going to lie to you. As you enter you teenage years, I am leaving them. I've experienced it all throughout the years and I've lived and learned. To make sure you don't make the same mistake I did, here is some words of advice from your wise older sister.
1. Try not to fight with Mom and Dad
I know they could be difficult sometimes and might not understand what’s going on in your life but, you will realize when you’re older that they’re the best support system in the whole world.
2. Don't change for anyone
You’re going to meet new friends or even boys but, be true to yourself and don’t change who you are to conform to their relationship. No relationship is worth it if you have to change yourself for it.
3. Boys are dumb
Stay away from them for as long as you can. That rumor about them having cooties is true.
4. Don't grow up too fast
Stay young while you can! There’s a lot of things you aren’t going to be able to do once you’re my age. Live freely while you don’t have many responsibilities.
5. Eat whatever you want now
Enjoy those bowls of ice cream now before it’s too late. One day you won’t be able to have sweets without growing another chin. So yes, eat that last thin mint cookie.
6. Academics are always first
School is always a number one priority. That stupid fight with your friend will mean nothing when you ace a test. Academics will take you far in life.
7. Surround yourself with positive people
Nobody needs any negativity in their life. A positive life is a happy life. Surround yourself with people that make you happy and make you want to be positive.
8. It's okay to make mistakes
Trust me, I’ve had my share of making mistakes. It’s good to make mistakes while you’re young, it’s a learning experience. The best part about failing is finding something or someone new while you’re getting back up.
9. Pay attention to what people do
Their actions will tell you everything you need to know. Their words will not.
10. Don't be envious of others
Instead of being envious, make goals and with hard work and staying focused you will be rewarded.
Take these words of advice to heart. I promise you in a few years you’ll say to me, “you were right.” Well of course I was, I am your big sister.
