As the winter gets colder, finding activities to do may become harder. Here are a few simple ways to have fun with your friends, family, and even alone.

1. Iceskating

Iceskating is the perfect winter activity because it can be indoors or outdoors, morning or night. While it's not everybody's favorite activity since some aren't able to skate well, it's still a great time to be with your friends whether you're doing figure eights or grabbing the wall every step.

2. Sledding

The hardest part of sledding is waiting for it to snow. But once it does, grab some friends and sleds and be sure to find a big hill to send each other down.

3. Drinking Hot Chocolate

After a cold winter day, coming home and getting cozy with a cup of hot chocolate is the best feeling. Whether it's alone, with your family or with your friends, be sure to grab a blanket and your favorite mug.

4. Visit Rockefeller Center

If you live near New York City, everybody knows what it means to go visit "the tree." The tree is a great spot for a winter photo and hey-while you're there you can go iceskating.

5. Watch Christmas Movies

A great way to get into the holiday spirit is to watch your favorite holiday movies. If you can't decide, ABC's 25 Days of Christmas will choose for you.

6. Exchange Gifts

The gift of giving is one of the best parts of the winter holidays. Between Christmas, Hanukkah, and Secret Santa parties, giving and receiving gifts is a great experience.

7. Build a Snowman

Although this requires waiting for snow, creating your own snowman is a cute and fun activity to do in the snow if you're not a fan of sledding.

8. Make Paper Snowflakes

When there's a blizzard outside and you're stuck indoors, crafts are a great way to keep anybody entertained. All you need is paper, scissors and a stapler to create beautiful paper snowflakes to decorate the house.

9. Make a Gingerbread House

Another great indoor activity is combining two great things: crafts and food. Whether you create it yourself or use a kit like I do, building a gingerbread house is a fun (and edible!) craft.

10. Have a Snowball Fight

When you finish building your snowman, there's obviously only one other thing to do: have a snowball fight. Build a wall of snow and take cover against your friends.

While the winter months may not be full of beach days and laying poolside, it does have its own unique activities. If you're looking for something to do inside or outside of the house, one of these activities may be the solution to your boredom.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
