Ah sweet summertime, a chance to finally take some time for yourself and RELAX. The summer is the perfect time to do all the things you like to do, but have no time for during any other time during the year. While there are many ways to relax during your summer break from school, here are a few to consider!

1. Take up a new, fun hobby

Summer is the perfect time to try something new and get out of your comfort zone! Try making do-it-yourself crafts or make a bucket list of things you have never done before and make it a goal to complete it during your summer break.

2. Go to fun fitness classes

Yoga, Zumba, Cycling, and the list goes on! There are so many fun ways to get your body moving that you may not have time to try during the school year. Taking time to take care of yourself is one of the best ways to relax.

3. Go on a hike or day trip to the beach

Whether the trip is spontaneous trip or planned, a day outside does the mind good after being cooped up inside all school year.

4. Find some good books to read by the pool

It is pretty much assumed that you will spend some time poolside at some point during the summer months. While doing so, check out some of the new best sellers that you would never be able to enjoy during the school year because reading for pleasure will never be an option.

5. Have a Netflix movie marathon

One of the classic and most popular ways to relax indoors, but it sure does do the trick.

6. Long drives at sunset

Bring a friend or your sibling, pump some jams, roll down your windows, and drive around. Maybe stop for some ice cream while you’re at it!

7. Stargaze

This may sound cheesy, but just laying on a blanket in your backyard and looking up at the stars is the perfect summer evening activity; just don’t forget the bug spray!

8. Go tubing/canoeing

Again, being outdoors is an amazing thing to do to relax during the summer. Even if you aren’t an outdoor enthusiast, doing one of these things with your friends is something different and usually something you can’t do while in school.

9. Treat yo’ self

Yes, this is a "Parks and Recreation" reference. But do as Tom and Donna do and go on a little shopping spree if you have the funds!

10. Take time to just lay down

I know this is super self-explanatory, but during the summer you actually have time to just lay down and not feel guilty that you aren’t studying in the library!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
