Vacation time is upon us. The next school year is coming up and many families and students are getting in their last hoorahs before being chained to a desk again. If you're like me, you want to have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. These are some tips that have helped me get into the relaxation mindset before and during my vacations.
1. Stay Organized.
When preparing for your trip, whether it be flying or driving, be sure to memorize your routes. Look over your flight times and the travel that it will take to get to your destination. When traveling, you want to have all of your ducks in a row and be prepared for what ever happens so that there is no added stress.
2. But not TOO organized.
Of course you want to have a handle on things that you are doing but, while on vacation, it can be best to go with the flow. Have a few days planned out, or ideas of what you would like to do but, don't plan every single minute of everyday. This can cause extra stress and false expectations for what is to come on the vacation. Take it easy and go with the flow for a change!
3. Be sure to get all of your priorities handled.
Before going on the trip, try to take care of your responsibilities back home. Pay your bills before you leave, or get auto pay set up for the ones you can't make yet. If you have homework or things to do for work, make sure you get those done before leaving. You may have limited signal where you're heading so it could be tough to get those things done. Also, who wants to deal with responsibilities while on vacation? I know I don't!
4. Bring some of your comfiest and cutest clothes.
While on vacation you want to look and feel good. Bring all of your favorite clothes with. Make sure you bring the comfy ones that you can relax in but also the gorgeous dress that's been sitting in your closet just waiting for an occasion to wear it.
5. At the same time, don't over or under pack.
Before you leave, check out the whether for where you are heading. Think ahead about the temperatures and what you need to bring with you to accommodate for that. You don't want to bring a million sweatshirts if you are traveling somewhere warm. Once you get to your destination, it'll be time to unwind and unpack- don't be the one who takes up too many drawers because they brought way too many things. But at the same time, don't be that person who smells awful because they are wearing the same clothes every single day.
6. Skip all of the tourist traps and take the less beaten path
Sure, seeing all of the sights that you have seen time after time on Instagram can be breathtaking, but nine times out of ten taking that side road and hitting the locals towns can be even better. Getting to go to the local diner and hiking paths is not only more fulfilling, it's more relaxing because you're not dealing with the thousands of people.
7. Try to keep your vacation as "unplugged" as possible.
There truly is something about being able to spend an entire day away from your phone. Not having to read the countless Facebook posts or get those annoying e-mails from your boss. If you're going out, try leaving your phone back where you will be staying. Enjoy the company of those around you and take in all of the sights with your eyes.
8. Make good use of your leisure time.
While everyone may have gone into town or if you're just taking a second to relax out of your day, make the best of it. Go for a walk by yourself or bring your favorite book and give it a good read. Vacation is all about unwinding and having fun. Take some time for yourself and rejuvenate while you can.
9. Listen to the locals.
If you're looking for some of the best restaurants or places to visit, ask the locals. They live in this area so of course they know it best. They can lead you to some of the neatest whole in the wall places. Listen to them and try to understand the new slang. Each place has a different culture that you can learn from. Be sure to take the time to do that!
10. And lastly, have fun and enjoy your vacation.
Vacations are made to be some of the best times of your life. Spend time with your loved ones and do everything that you would like to do. Be spontaneous and try things you never thought you would have. Relax and unwind.
