10 Ways to Make the Most of Your College Summers

As the summer progresses you may find yourself in a cycle of doing the same thing everyday as you anxiously await moving back to school. It is easy to fall into this rut, but the summer is a great opportunity to relax, recharge and renew yourself for another year of college and should therefore be made the most of. These 10 tips are great ways to mix up your daily routine and help you better enjoy the summer.

1. Get Up Early

Starting your day on the early side and eating a hearty breakfast increases your productivity throughout the day and leaves you with the energy to complete your daily tasks. While sleeping until noon and laying around for the rest of the day is certainly the easier option, getting started early gives you more time to enjoy your summer.

2. Find a Part-Time Job

It may not be glamorous to spend your summer working, but part-time jobs offer unique opportunities to learn new skills and meet new people. Part-time jobs are also a great way to keep yourself busy during the long days of summer and will help you earn some cash for school.

3. Read a Book

Reading is an excellent way to spend summer days and it is especially convenient now that many mobile devices have ways to download books, newspapers and other literature. Reading has great benefits like increased vocabulary, reduced stress levels and improved focus and concentration.

4. Try an Exercise Class

Find a local gym or fitness center and try a group exercise class. These classes offer great opportunities for fitness as well as a great environment to meet people who are trying to live a healthy lifestyle. Whether you prefer to work out in the morning or evening, fitness centers offer a wide variety of classes throughout the day.

5. Take Advantage of Student Discounts

Many businesses offer student discounts, you just have to look for them! Go online and search for local restaurants, museums and other businesses that offer free or reduced prices to students and take full advantage of that.

6. Go Outside

Don’t spend your entire summer inside using technology when the outdoors awaits you. Whether you decide to take a walk in a park or do something more adventurous, like zip-lining, spending time outside is a great way to clear your head and help you get back in touch with nature and yourself.

7. Make Your Own Fun

Instead of spending money to go out somewhere, make your own fun at home. Construct a homemade slip-and-slide with a tarp and dish soap in the back yard or set up a bonfire with friends, both of which allow you to use your imagination and have fun without breaking the bank.

8. Apply for an Internship

Internships are a great way to get your foot in the door of a future professional career, so apply apply apply! Spend a day or two looking up internships around your school and build a resume. Having an internship teaches you how to manage your time, and you never know who you could meet on the job.

9. Reconnect with Old Friends

Summer is a great time to strengthen old relationships that may have faded unintentionally over the year because you are all home and looking for things to do. Schedule a time to go out to lunch, go on a beach trip or do another bonding activity with your group of friends.

10. Volunteer

Volunteering your time is a great way to help local causes, instill a sense of pride within yourself and build your resume. Look up volunteer opportunities around you and go help out a few days a week, you’ll be glad you did!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
