Whether you're a senior in college or a freshman in high school, every student deals with stress at some point in their life. Trying to manage all your responsibilities, homework, jobs, extracurricular activities, social life, etc., can be tough and you may feel the pressure getting to you. Here are 10 different ways to cope with stress when you have a lot on your plate:
1. Make lists.
Making a to-do list gives you the ability to manage and keep track of all your tasks. Once you complete something, checking it off can be a big accomplishment, making you one step closer to having all your work done. You can even decorate your lists and write inspirational and fun quotes to keep you motivated!
2. Take breaks.
Just because you may have a lot of things to do in a short period of time, does not mean you have to get them all done at once. If you are rushing to complete something, you may make a mistake or miss something important. Taking a short break in between your work will ensure that your mind is ready to move onto the next thing and not be confused or tired.
3. Drink water.
Although you may not be able to start the day without your daily cup of coffee, it is important to always stay hydrated with water. By drinking about 8 glasses of water a day, not only will it your skin and health improve, but your productivity and energy levels will be raised, leaving you motivated and happy to do your work.
4. Listen to music.
Music has the power to completely change one's mood. By listening to happy, upbeat songs, you're going to feel a lot better and will find your foot tapping while doing you're work. If you can't listen to music while working because you find it distracting, put on an instrumental or sounds of nature in order to have a relaxing background noise.
5. Exercise.
Exercising not only helps us lose weight and remain strong, but it also boosts your metabolism and energy levels. It is a good way to let out anger, stress, and it really helps in all aspects of health.
6. Take a nap.
There's nothing better than climbing into bed and catching up on some sleep. Especially if you are stressed, taking a nap will allow you to take a break with all your responsibilities and gives your body and mind time to rest.
7. Make a snack.
Who doesn't love food? If you're feeling sick or groggy, foods such as bananas, almonds, strawberries, and yogurt will help boost your energy and keep you awake while doing your work. It's always important to eat healthy, but some chocolate here and there is actually healthy for your heart, too!
8. Try out aromatherapy.
Certain scents, such as lemon, jasmine, and lavender are all proven to boost your mood and productivity. Incense can be pretty expensive and also dangerous if left alone. Your cat might knock it over with it's tail and the incense could cause a fire. If you enjoy incense always make sure to keep an eye on them. You can also try certain candles with safety holders, but just try not to wake up the Sanderson Sisters.
9. Take a bubble bath.
There's no better way to relieve stress than taking a nice and hot bubble bath. You can bring your computer in the bathroom with you and listen to music or watch Netflix, but just be sure not to get it wet! The warm water will relax all of your muscles and you will literally feel the tension and stress leaving your body.
10. Remember to breathe.
Inhale, exhale. You made it through this list and hopefully found new ways to deal with the stresses of your everyday life! Whenever you feel anxious or uneasy, take a deep breath in and a deep breath out. You can look up different breathing techniques and meditations that will help you feel calm and grounded.
