On July 27, the first official trailer for "Gilmore Girls, A Year in the Life" came out, and the internet exploded. If youāre like me, youāve been watching "Gilmore Girls" since you were a small child. It may even be where your humor came from. If not, youāve probably binged-watched the joys of Lorelai and Rory on Netflix, some time in the past few years.
"A Year in the Life" features the quirky Lorelai Gilmore, with her daughter Rory, sitting at the kitchen table. Lorelai starts off on one of her classic tangents, when Rory picks up her phone to fact-check her. āThis is not a teachable moment,ā Lorelai protests, but Rory already has the answer. When Gilmore Girls premiered the first time around, most of the characters were just starting their journey into the internet-with episodes where Emily discovers online shopping and Rory sending e-mails here and there. Well, it's 2016 and Stars Hollow will be looking a little different. This is just one of the few things that will be different in Stars Hollow, come this November.
1. Stars Hallow Facebook groups.
I live in a small town that's a little larger than Stars Hollow and let me tell you...local Facebook groups have more drama than an entire season of Gilmore Girls. I can see it now-someone making a post in the Stars Hollow Community Connect about the lack of vegetables at Doose's, and all hell breaks loose. Taylor will attempt to get the admins to ban said complainer, while Miss Patty and Babette are proclaiming, "Free speech! Free speech!" Meanwhile, Lorelai's sending screenshots of the whole debacle to Rory.
2. 99% of Kirkās jobs will be online.
Remember how it seemed like Kirk had a job at every business in Stars Hallow imaginable? Now he can make just as much money, from the comfort of his mother's home. Those articles you always see telling you how you can, "Make a Thousand Dollars, Right in Your Own Home!" Kirk will be on Swagbucks, Fiverr, eBay -- you name it. This won't stop Kirk from still being at every store and event in town, but now he can make money, even in his down-time. And yes, there would definitely be a few times where Kirk takes up some weird odd jobs on Craigslist.
3. Lorelai will be so into Netflix.
Do I even need to make an argument for this one? Finally, Lorelai can watch movies over and over again, without being judged. The Gilmores were binge-watching before it was even a thing. Watching every James Dean movie known to man? Please, that sounds like Lorelai's average Tuesday.
4. Cyber-stalking will occur.
Long-gone are the days of wondering whatever happened to your ex, then suddenly running into him at the grocery store.
"Oh my god -- Mom, Dean got married again!"
"Well yeah, I saw that he was engaged on Facebook like six months ago."
"Why didn't you tell me?!"
"...It was on Facebook."
Lorelai and Rory will be total Facebook stalkers. As soon as Rory starts dating someone new, Lorelai will have the names of all of his ex-girlfriends and where they all live.
5. The Dragonfly Inn will have a Yelp war.
All it's going to take is one nasty Yelp review for Sookie and Lorelai to get up in arms. You saw what happened when a reviewer said bad things about Sookie's cooking. Now imagine that thousands of people read that, all right before making the decision on whether or not they'll stay at the Dragonfly. There will be words exchanged.
6. Lane and Zack will hate Spotify -- at first.
It's basically just stealing music from the artists!" Lane will argue, after her kiddos try to show her that she can listen to AC/DC on her phone, anytime she wants. "That is so not rock n' roll," Zack will agree, while packing their lunches. "Nothing will beat the amazing sounds of a booming radio."
Then, once no one is watching, they'll look at it -- just to make fun of it, of course. Three days later, they both have Spotify Premium in their pockets for 24-hour rock 'n' roll.
7. Luke will still hate phones, only now with more hating.
That No Cell Phones sign? Luke will most likely be getting a few more of those for around the diner. He'll roll his eyes at April insisting that they take snapchats with all of the ridiculous filters, but allow Lorelai to FaceTime Rory in the diner. He would complain about how stupid and pointless Facebook and Twitter is, but occasionally post pictures of the boat on Facebook. He'd have no profile picture, though, despite how annoyed it makes Lorelai.
8. Queer culture will be prominent.
Michele was the character that always begged the question, "Is he gay or European?" Well, we've come a long way with LGBTQ rights, and now most shows have a gay or trans character. In fact, it almost seems weird when shows don't have a queer person warming and breaking our hearts. If they don't reveal that Michele is both gay and European, there'll have to be some sort of casual mention of a gay character here or there. Even a small, "Oh yeah, I was just at Lucy and Olivia's wedding," would quench my thirst for the gay.
9.Lorelai will be the Pinterest queen.
She sews, she crafts, she's fashionable, hell, the woman coupons. Lorelai Gilmore would have a pinterest board for every aspect of her life, and if you disagree, you're lying to yourself. Rory would get in the habit of groaning every time a conversation started with, "So I started a Pinterest board..."
10. Rory will be in love -- with her Kindle.
Will she end up marrying Logan? Will Jess swoop in at the last minute and charm her all over again? Will there be a new Mr. Right for the youngest Gilmore girl? That I cannot say for sure, but what I do know is that Rory Gilmore will be Kindle's biggest fan. Sure, she'll still love the smell and feeling of an old book, but nothing will delight Rory more than the fact that she can read on the go. Finally, she can take all 600 of her favorite books with her as she travels the world for her fabulous journalism career. And that's all that we really want in the end anyway, right? For the Gilmores to be happy and doing what they love the most.
