Let's Talk About How Gilmore Girls Ended
Krone

As a Gilmore Girls devotee for at least the last ten years, the day I've always dreaded has come. The day when my favorite show has a reboot that ends with an enormous gaping cliff hanger. Once again, I'm warning against spoilers, because this article is full of them. There are just a few elements of the last (maybe) four episodes which I need to talk about for my own mental sanity.

1. Lane!!!

So Lane basically gets the short end of the stick and ends up still living with her band mates and her baby-daddy, Zach, and their two adorable kids. It doesn't sound bad besides for the fact that Lane is way too good for Zach in my opinion. Maybe I'm biased because she is my favorite character in the show, but I thought she deserved more. Or is that why she didn't get more? Because in life you can't exactly earn a happy ending, and Lane and Rory are only 32 or so. I guess that would be a little early for a happy ending, or any kind of ending. She didn't seem like she was disappointed in her life with Zach and the twins, but it's obviously not the rock star lifestyle the 16-year-old Lane who hid CDs under her floorboards and yelled, "THAT'S SO NOT ROCK N' ROLL," whenever something irked her.

2. The "meeting" between Christopher and Rory in the last episode

I was a little shocked by this one because Christopher seemed cold. It threw into relief the entire story of Rory, Lorelei, and Christopher throughout the show. He talked about how he never had a chance of being with the Gilmore girls. He said something like from the first time he saw Rory and Lorelei together he knew there was no getting in between them, and that's why he never tried to fight for a bigger place in Rory's life. At first, I figured Rory wanted to talk with him about how she grew up in a single-parent family because of the book she had started writing about her and her mom's life. After the last line in the episode, I see that the conversation had a lot more weight to it. My interpretation is that Rory had known for a while that she was pregnant and this was her weighing her options. I assume Logan is the father, or maybe the guy dressed as a Wookie she met in New York. Whether it's Logan or Wookie boy, does she want to include him in whatever decision she decides to make? Honestly, the meeting between them was not very uplifting, there's an understandable distance between them, and Rory's independence from her father is obvious. She felt she could never rely on him, so she doesn't.

3. JESS ARGHHHHH

Why is the last time we see Jess when he's longingly staring in the window at Rory? BECAUSE THAT'S HIS PURPOSE IN LIFE. Granted, he's only 30ish, but he helped Rory find her passion in writing a novel about her life. Their witty banter works so well. Then again, Logan is pretty good at the witty banter thing as well. But he can't seem to decide, can he? Then again, Rory did say no to his proposal, but she was only 23. But we're talking about Jess now. His hair got longer. He's buffer. He downs scotch like a gentleman. And he's still got the sexy half smirk going on (Which is actually due to a nerve condition. I looked it up). I am pleased that the writers kept that plot point open because you cannot cut off Jess, you just cannot do it. He really wears the leather jacket well.

4. Luke's Tirade

I've been waiting for that speech for seven seasons, we all have. Lorelei starts off talking and going on a long-winded explanation of how coffee has always been important in her life and I imagine she was going to connect her coffee addiction to Luke's and in turn to Luke, and how he was he supposed to be with her all along, but for once Lorelei gets cut off. Luke finally cuts her off and tells her she's wrong (because he thinks she's about to leave him). I'm not sure how that would work considering he's living in her house, but still, Luke has his say and it's perfect. We finally know what's underneath the blue baseball cap. Not that we didn't know, but it's cute anyway. And they get married and it's precious, thanks to Kirk.

5. Emily Sells the House

The Gilmore Mansion is up for sale. It's the end of an era. Emily becomes a curator at a whaling museum in Nantucket. I never saw it coming. But I shed a few tears about the house being sold. So many Friday night dinners. So many dramatic arguments. Christmas parties. Plot twists. Remember the episode where it's literally all four Gilmores arguing nonstop? Despite the nostalgia and all the good memories, Emily wants to move on. After she storms out on her DAR meeting (after saying the word "bullshit" five times, which is a new one). She says all of her society functions died when Richard did. That line killed me. Good for her, though. I'm glad they showed that even after mourning, life still goes on.

So maybe this was me just giving a summary of the very last episode of the Gilmore Girls, but somethings just have to be said. I'm not sure any die hard fan was mentally prepared for that ending or any ending in general, but I think we should call attention to the fact that it is possibly over, without much being resolved. It's a very realistic ending in my opinion, and it's actually a bit inspiring. The Gilmore Girls series began when Lorelei was 32, and now it's ending, when Rory is the same age and pregnant. I think the life coming full circle thing was a good way to go. My compliments to the writers.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
