10 Ways To Make Your Dorm Feel Like Christmas
Barry Meyer

It’s that time of year and if you are struggling to get into the Christmas spirit because your environment just isn’t festive enough, here are 10 ways to make your dorm feel like Christmas.

1. Hang stockings.

My roommate and I did this last year, and have already put them up again this year. Having stockings hung on the side of your armoire with your name written in fabric paint on the top just makes it feel like you’re sitting in your own living room at home for the holidays.

2. Put on ABC Family’s (Freeform) 25 Days of Christmas and leave it on all the time.

You will never miss a classic Christmas movie and will constantly be in the Christmas spirit. Plus, who doesn’t love movies? (OK, I’m a little biased on this one because movies are my favorite indoor pass time and Christmas movies are the best).

3. Always have candy canes.

They are pretty cheap really anywhere and you can do so much with them. You can hang them, eat them, have sword fights with them and when you see a candy cane, you can’t help but think of Christmas.

4. Make decorations red and green.

Everyone has some kind of decorations in their room, whether it be pictures of friends and family or crafts and paintings so an easy way to make it feel more Christmassy is to make them Christmas themed! Print out Christmassy pictures, hang up red and green crafts maybe even buy fake snow (this is extra but also could be a lot of fun) — whatever you think will make it feel like Christmas in your tiny room.

5. Drink hot chocolate from a Christmas mug every day.

Hot chocolate is the go-to drink for the holidays — besides eggnog, of course — and drinking it will warm you from the inside out and make you feel in the Christmas spirit. Drinking it out of a mug just adds to the effect because mugs are very homey and if it’s Christmas themed, it just makes it all the better.

6. Make a gingerbread house with your roommate.

These may be a little expensive but it is such a fun break from all the studying that I know you are doing. It makes the room smell like gingerbread, you get to eat the leftover icing, and it’s a fun family tradition you can bring to your little school family. You could even make it into a friendly competition between you and your friends to see who makes the best one.

7. Get pine air freshener.

Since we can’t have an actual Christmas tree or even a fake Christmas tree, you’ve got to get that feeling from somewhere. While you get to see the pretty lit up tree at the center of campus, that feeling doesn’t stick with you while in your dorm room. Get a Christmas tree scented air freshener! It’ll have you feeling like it's Christmas in no time!

8. Get the $1 Target foam Christmas decorations and tape them around the room.

Everyone knows that small section in the front of Target where everything is a dollar and you can’t help but check it all out because it’s one dollar. Plus, who doesn’t leave Target with way more than what they came for, anyways? Around this time of year, they have small Christmas decorations that you can hang up around your room and even though they are tiny, if you have enough, it gives your dorm room that holiday feeling.

9. Hand green and red strings of beads.

Still not feeling Christmassy enough? Buy some strings of red and green beads that are meant to decorate Christmas trees and border your room with them! It’s a small detail that goes a long way and doesn’t take long to do.

10. Always play Christmas music.

Last, but certainly not least, put on Christmas music. This is the easiest one and by far the best one to get you feeling in the Christmas spirit!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
