10 Ways Cats are Like Humans

I am a cat person and I am not ashamed to say it. I know there are many people who are anti-cat, and I think I might know why. Cats tend to embody some of humanities worst qualities like aloofness, selfishness, and laziness. Compare these qualities to the loyalty and unconditional love of dogs, there seems to be a clear winner. As awesome as dogs are, I definitely relate more to cats.

1. They love naps.

There are few things I love more than a good nap. Unfortunately my human life forbids me from napping all day like a cat, but I often fantasize about it.

2. They are masters of the cold shoulder.

When I am mad I give people the cold shoulder and turn passive aggressive. No one gives me the cold shoulder better than my cat. Cats will completely ignore your existence for whatever reason until you again become worthy of their affections.

3. They give judgmental glances or stares.

I think I am more judged by my cat than anyone else I have ever met.

4. They desire to fit into absurdly small spaces.

I have met many humans that try to squeeze into clothes that are a size too small. And who doesn't want the ability to disappear into a small space when they are embarrassed?

5. They attempt to cover up their messes.

Cats try to bury their messes. Humans do the same thing, just in a slightly different way.

6. They have a need for affection.

Cats can be extraordinarily affectionate creatures when they desire, the same with some humans I know.

7. And on the flip side, they have a need for personal space.

Cats as well as humans have a personal bubble that is best not to infiltrate.

8. They have a need for cleanliness.

Cats clean themselves a lot, and compared to the majority of the animal kingdom, humans do too.

9. They are amused by simple things.

My cat will play with crumbs, and I will spend an unreasonable amount of time playing with the sticky glue that comes off the back of gift cards.

10. They are still loved despite all the annoying things they do.

I love my sister even though she takes my clothes, and I love my cat even though he likes to randomly attack my ankles.

In a way, I think loving cats teaches us to love humans.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
