10 Ways To Combat Stress
Stephanie Mitchell

With midterms just having passed and finals quickly approaching, the stress of college can become a bit overwhelming. If you’re at all like me you did not handle the stress of midterms well. Since we now have a few weeks before finals hit us, I’ve decided to go into that week a little more prepared. Through some intensive research I’ve discovered 10 of the best stress relievers for finals week, because one can never have too many choices on how to relieve stress.

1. Go Outside.

Being stuck inside for 20 hours trying to finish that 10 pages paper can cause some serious built up tension. Taking a nice stroll outside for some fresh air can do wonders to relieve stress. One of my favorite places to go walk is at Cascades Park; the park has a nice path around a little lake. It is the perfect place to get away a de-stress.

2. Yoga.

Another good way to let everything out is yoga. Yoga has been known to help reduce stress, and improve flexibility. FSU offers free yoga classes with an FSU ID. You can also YouTube yoga classes if you don’t feel like leaving your house.

3. Running/Exercising.

If the built up stress can’t be relieved by just yoga try going for a run or a nice weigh lifting session at the Leach. Running is my go to when I’m super stressed out. Let those endorphins brighten up your day, and give you a boost to keep on studying.

4. Watch something funny.

Sometimes a good laugh is the best medicine. You’d be amazing how just taking a 30 minute break to watch the newest episode of Modern Family can cause you to forget your stress and put you back into a good mood.

5. Take a hot bath.

Having spent the night in Stozier can have you feeling nasty, and in desperate need of a shower. Instead of hoping in for a quick shower opt for a hot bath. Fill that thing will bubbles, and light some candles and this is the perfect way to give your mind a break. Guys, this one is for you too! Baths are for everyone.

6. Call your person.

If exercise or baths aren’t your thing try reaching out to your best friends. Venting is a great way to relieve stress. Also let your best friend vent too, listening and helping someone else out with his or her problems can help you forget about your own.

7. Play that funky music.

Blasting Bailando and dancing like no one is watching makes me forget that I have a test the next day at 7:30 am. So pick your favorite tune, and blast that thing as loud as your speakers can go.

8. Eat the stress away.

No, no I don’t mean stuffing your face with Eddy’s Ice Cream. I mean eating real healthy food that has been known to help reduce stress. Some great go to foods to help relieve your stress are blueberries, sweet potatoes, spinach, avocados, or strawberries. A favorite smoothie of mine to make is spinach, banana, and strawberries, the perfect mix of de-stressing agents.

9. Get some Z's.

Actually being sleep deprived causes serious stress to your body. Many college students skip on sleep to get that extra 3 hours of studying, however, this can do some serious harm instead of help. Try for at least 8 hours of sleep especially when you are stressed about finals, because sleeping can help you feel less overwhelmed and worried.

10. Play with a puppy.

Whether it’s your puppy or your downstairs neighbors, a person just can’t be upset when in the presences of a little adorable puppy. If you are unable to find a puppy anywhere near you then head to YouTube again and watch this precious video, then watch your mood turn around instantly.

There they are, the 10 greatest secrets to relieving stress this finals week, or any time that you are feeling stressed. I know I will be doing all ten of these when finals time rolls around. Good luck with your tests/papers/projects, and may they be less stressful after reading this.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
