10 Verses For The College Student

Whether you practice religion or not, everybody has those days when you could surely use a little guidance from something or someone greater than yourself. It can be hard to have the constant pressures of everyday life weighing down on your shoulders as you walk to and from class each day. The demands of schoolwork, actual work, friends, family, roommates, and extra curricular activities builds up until you start questioning yourself and your intentions in every thing you're doing.

Personally, when this happens I have a bout of anxiety, call my mom in hysterics, or flee home hoping all my worries will fade away. With this, each and every time I return to some common biblical verses that help me see more clearly and ease my mind. So, as I know I'm not the only one who may experience this, I'm here to share a few that have proved to help me remember that at the end of every day, each and every little thing will always be okay if you just believe it to be.

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13

1. When you are needing self discipline:

1 Corinthians 9:24

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

2. When you are needing direction:

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.

3. When you feel your efforts are worthless:

Galatians 6:9

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

4. When someone upsets you:

Psalms 37

Do not fret because of those who are evil

or be envious of those who do wrong;

2 for like the grass they will soon wither,

like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the Lord and do good;

dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Take delight in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires of your heart.

The Lord makes firm the steps

of the one who delights in him;

24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,

for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

5. When you are wishing for something beyond your control:

Matthew 21:22

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

6. When you need help finding good in others around you:

Psalm 27:13

I remain confident of this:

I will see the goodness of the Lord

in the land of the living.

7. When you are going to bed weary:

Psalm 143:8

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,

for I have put my trust in you.

Show me the way I should go,

8. When you are feeling doubtful of the future:

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

9. When you are feeling not smart enough:

1 Corinthians 1:30

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

10. When there are days you feel alone:

Hebrews 13:5

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;

never will I forsake you.”

And lastly remember — God gives his greatest battles to his strongest soldiers.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
