Here at UW-L, we have over 200 student organizations that we are free to join. We all know that our involvement in various clubs and student organizations looks good on a resume. But how often are we joining these clubs and attending meetings just for the fun of it? Of course, some organizations are going to align better with your career path but that doesn't mean you can't join an organization just for the pleasure aspect of it. Below is a list of student organizations you should consider joining.

1. Active Minds

Active Minds now has a chapter that is new to UW-L but is part of a national organization. The organization’s purpose is to create a positive force that is focused on changing the conversation and stereotypical stigma surrounding mental health on college campuses. The organization’s motto is “to create a happy and healthy college experience by sponsoring awareness campaigns and trying to remind the students of UWL to stress less and laugh more.”

Meets: The second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Cartwright 257.

2. Cheese Club

The Cheese Club is a student-run organization that offers students a place where they can enjoy local, national and international cheese all in the great company of other cheese lovers.

Meets: Open meeting times to be decided.

3. Colleges Against Cancer

Colleges Against Cancer is one of the hundreds of chapters worldwide and we are lucky to have a chapter here at UW-L. The purpose of this organization is to make a difference in communities by providing advocacy and cancer education while focusing on the Relay for Life and survivorship.

5. Habitat For Humanity

Habitat For Humanity is chartered by Habitat For Humanity International through the La Crosse Area Affiliate and was started at UW-L in 2001. The organization works with other campus and community organizations by providing volunteer and charitable work in non-profit areas on campus and throughout the La Crosse area.

Meets: Every Thursday at 7 p.m. in 2305 Centennial.

6. I Am That Girl

I Am That Girl is a special interest organization that strives to empower women in every way possible. The organization provides a safe space for women to empower other women and encourage them to see the positives in themselves and turn their self-doubt into self-love. The members of this group inspire and invest in the power that all women have within themselves.

Meets: Every other Monday at 7 p.m. in 3214 Centennial.

7. Investment Club

The Investment Club is a special interest organization that focuses on providing students with knowledge on securities, 401K planning, investor accounts, trading methods and an overview of financial tools that will be useful to them in the future.
