You might think it's hard to differentiate between specific city-goers however, it's pretty easy to notice a New Yorker. These are some unmistakable signs that prove you're from the concrete jungle where dreams are made of.
1. You're beyond surprised when someone talks to you or greets you.
Just recently, I missed my train stop (the usual) and a friendly woman asked me for directions. She was a tourist from Spain and we had a nice conversation about city life. However, I couldn't stop wondering "why is someone talking to me?" It's just unusual having a conversation with a stranger although it might be something normal for people in different states and towns.
2. You walk faster than everyone else even when you're not in the city.
'N
3. You'd rather take the snail-like, delayed subway than drive to the city.
It's too much of a hassle and will probably take you an extra hour or two in traffic.
4. You get overly suspicious about your surroundings if it gets quiet at night.
Why is it quiet? Where are the cars? Am I not in NYC anymore? It's quite reasonable to get nervous if you don't hear loud music and car horns at midnight.
5. Personal space is a myth.
Said the college student who just barely made it into the overcrowded subway car.
6. "Why do we have to take regents?" You've asked this question at least once in high school.
Don't deny it. I still wonder to this day: why do we have to take
8. You own too many jackets and sweaters
Just in case it drops to 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit this July, I have my jackets, sweaters, and scarves ready!
9. You avoid Times Square at all cost.
I've tried going to Times Square a couple times last month. I don't think I've ever been as relieved as I was after catching the train and leaving that place.
10. You have tried countless different cuisines.
New York City is home to diversity in culture, cuisines, religion, and architecture. I'm pretty sure that if I lived in another city or town, I wouldn't have forced myself to try new things And let's not forget about those awesome halal.
