Bored of the same old, same old? Going out to eat or catching friends at a movie can be exciting, but it also can get repetitive. Depending on where you live, there can be limitations to what you can do or where you can go. However, the following unique activities are ones that aren't limited to one place. The summer is pretty much here and you should definitely consider putting one of these on your calendar.
1. Plan A Road Trip
A road trip doesn't have to be cross country. Take a look at a map or think in your mind of a reasonable day destination. Search Google and find some things you do can with friends there.
2. Check out a Cave
Chances are you don't have one of these in your backyard. In this case, consider making this a destination on that road trip. Caves are beautifully photogenic and something you don't see every day (and some even have underground waterfalls).
3. Try Dancing
There are more flavors to dancing than you could've guessed. And that's perfect, because the choices are limitless. Take some friends and try swing, salsa, or some other safe and local dance that's offered.
4. Try a Sport
Now you might not be a "sports person." However, just trying sports can surprise you on how enjoyable they can actually be. Getting some friends to try out sports can be a great way to break the ice or just get to know each other better. Look for local tennis courts, golf courses, basketball courts, or just a wide open field and get the game started.
5. Go on a Hike/Walk
Whether, you have the mountains, fields, or the beach, getting outside is a breath of fresh air. Grab some friends and take a few minutes away from other distractions.
6. Check out the Zoo
Animals are there, so need I say more?
7. Get out the board games
Instead of playing the same card game where you stare at each other awkwardly from across the table, try something requiring communication or intensity. Monopoly, Mafia, and Spoons are some common ones worth trying when it feels like a million degrees outside. If you really want to look outside the box, check out The Resistance (found on Amazon).
8. Check out a Concert/Music Festival
Believe it or not, there are still some reasonably cheap music festivals out there. If you have a wide-ranging music taste, look up the tour dates for multiple artists and you're bound to come across something. Look at the artist line up for any local county or state fairs. If the artists are far away or expensive, consider picking one to go to that has the best line up.
9. Go for bike ride
Find some trails nearby and pack a lunch. Also, if you need a motivator, ice cream is always perfect.
10. Find the nearest Pond/Stream/Creek
This one is fun for much more than just swimming. Build some mudslides, work on that tan (ladies?), go fishing, kayak, or find a great spot where the water is deep enough (and safe enough) to jump into from a rock or ledge above.
Get out this summer and do something different like one of these ideas! Feel free to share and find me on social media.
