1. Your heart flutters when you get new rep.

Admit it, you can't wait to have something new to finally practice. There are endless possibilities, endless recordings, endless hours in the practice room...and then the excitement fades again until you have a new piece you're not sick of!

2. You often catch yourself mouthing your lyrics while you do daily activities.

You're at the gym, mouthing the words to Caro Mio Ben or singing Victoria on repeat in the shower. It's okay, we all do it. Besides, at least now you'll remember it for studio class. And for the rest of your life.

3. Your voice teacher is your role model, a god(dess), the ultimate singer.

Let's face it, you're the Ursula to their Ariel. You look up to them, and they are everything you want to be as a performer.

4. No matter what voice part you are, there's a part of you that secretly wants to be a different one.

Sopranos want to be mezzos, baritones want to be tenors. I want to be a mermaid, but we know that's never going to happen, either.

5. Your excuse for not going out on the weekends is always "I have to practice"

This also includes all the reasons why you don't smoke, drink excessively, or stay out late. We singers must take care of ourselves because our bodies = our instrument.

6. IPA is your best friend and your worst enemy.

Everyone loves a good schwa, but try that on a high Bb. Hooray for vowel modulation!

7. While many of your friends spend a majority of their time listening to pop, you'd much rather jam out to opera.

8. Everytime your hear a recording of yourself, you cringe.

It's the best way to learn, but we tend to hear what we did wrong rather than what we did right.

9. Your studio friends become a second family.

You spend a LOT of time together between bonding over your obsession with your voice teacher and endless studio days. You eventually learn to love one another and help each other grow.

Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
