I wish I understood these before

No matter how much you prepare for college, you will never truly be prepared for what is in store for you. After experiencing college for two weeks, I've realized so many things on my own that I did not expect before I came here.

1. Making New Friends Is Not As Easy As It Seems

Yes, everyone is looking for new friends as well, but if you stay cooped up in your dorm or don't attempt to socialize, it is likely to be a very lonely transition. Overall, if you try to make friends, you probably will. Just know that they might not come flocking to you.

2. You Will Not Have Time To Do Everything You Want

With college comes a mountain of new experiences, foods, and clubs to try. If you are like me, you would love to fill your days up with all sorts of activities. But when you add classes and study time, you have to make some activities priorities and get rid of others. You will figure out what works for you as the year goes on and there is always next year to try something else.

3. Trying New Things Is Crucial

Even though you can't do everything, college is a chance to step out of your comfort zone. Join that club that you have always thought was cool, go to different events, and don't eat the same thing everyday. The variety will help you figure out what you like and may make who you are a little more clear.

4. You Will Re-Wear Clothes

If you are the type of person that changes their clothes multiple times a day and ends the week with endless laundry, college will change you. You are not going to want to do laundry all the time, so getting used to re-wearing clothes is an absolute must!

5. You’re Going To Get Lost- Explore As Much As You Can As Early As Possible

Even if you took multiple tours of the campus, you are still 110% likely to get lost, especially early on. Use a lot of your free time the first few days and explore the entire campus and even off campus if you have time. No one wants to feel like the freshman glued to their map on the way to class

6. Don't Do Homework In Your Dorm

Whether it's your phone or your floor-mate popping their head in your door, you are a lot more likely to get distracted while trying to study or do homework in your dorm. Try to find a nice, quiet space with very little distractions.

7. Homesickness Is Inevitable

When people start feeling homesick is entirely individual. For me, I felt homesick almost right away. Take the time to call your family and old friends. They are important in your life even if you're not with them at the moment. They will appreciate it and it is a great counter attack to loneliness.

8. You Can Blow Through Money Easily

During my first few weeks here, I've noticed people going out to eat all the time and ordering whatever they wanted. You don't want to be broke by the middle of the semester. It's okay to go out every once in a while, but don't overdue it.

9. Your Room Gets Too Messy Too Fast

Everyone wants the dorm rooms you see on Pinterest, which are so far from reality, but not keeping your room clean will make your room look like a pig sty! With such little space, it is difficult to make sure your room stays clean. Cleaning as you go makes things ten times easier.

10. It Is Hard To Be Healthy And Exercise

With buffet style meals, we can all get carried away, especially in the beginning. There are always desserts sitting right in front of you and sometimes it can be hard to resist. My roommate and I have established to eat at the dining hall that serves comfort (unhealthy) food for dinner on Friday's. Since it has a big ice cream bar, I choose to eat dessert once a week. I would highly recommend coming up with your own dietary plans. As for exercise, group fitness classes are super fun! If you don't want to go to the gym by yourself, try to find a buddy or attend a class to keep you away from the freshman fifteen.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
