As summer nears, life as a college student starts to get pretty hectic. If you're involved in a lot of things, it can be even worse. You may have multiple projects or papers that are due soon, along with the many responsibilities of your extracurriculars and most of us also have jobs on top of everything else. Let's just say that balance can be a huge struggle, but that doesn't mean that it's impossible.
1. Laughter is the best medicine.
As cliche as it may sound, it's so true. Whenever I get into a tough situation, my go-to is to crack a joke. If you're feeling stressed or just upset in general, spend time with the people who make you laugh the most. If that's not possible, the internet is full of funny cat videos!
2. Write it all down.
Write down everything, whether it is in a journal, an agenda, or even a simple to-do list. Although I slack in this department, writing things out can not only help you remember, but it will help to clear your mind as well.
3. Sleep!
You've heard it a million times before and I'm telling you again. Sleep is so incredibly important for your body as a whole. It's recommended that the average person gets seven to eight hours of sleep every night.
4. Stay healthy!
Other than sleeping enough, you should put in a little bit of extra work to keep yourself healthy when you're stressed. Take your multivitamins and even vitamin C to give your immune system that boost that it'll need when the stress gets to you! Also, don't forget to keep physical activity in your daily routine.
5. Unplug.
Set your phone aside and shut your laptop. Go for a walk with your friends or even by yourself to soak up that vitamin D. Getting away from the electronics, even for just a little bit, will have you feeling refreshed and more relaxed.
6. Set aside some time for yourself.
Take a block of time to focus on yourself. Sit down and read a leisure book. Take an extra long hot shower to relax. Basically, do whatever is going to make you happy.
7. Accept defeat.
Sometimes, you just have to wave that white flag. Whether it is for forgetting to study for that one quiz or not getting the grade you could have gotten on your recent paper, don't dwell on it. Just move on to your next battle.
8. Cut the toxins out.
Whether the toxins are in the food that you eat, the drinks that you drink, or are even the people in your life, you don't need any of that. So detoxify!
9. Be grateful.
It's always important to be grateful for the life that you live. Thank the people in your life for being there. Be grateful for all of the luxuries that you do have. Don't ever let stress stop you from seeing the good.
10. Treat yourself!
This is another cliche self-help tip, but it's true! Take a shopping day even if you don't end up buying anything. Go out to dinner with your friends. Do anything that your heart desires to make yourself happy. Go on, you deserve it!
