In Wisconsin, September is the month to reunite with friends and catch up on summer shenanigans. After a busy summer of working and traveling, it's the perfect way to relax and prepare for fall events. After settling into the school routine, the excitement to see your boyfriend and show him your new living arrangement hits an all time high. You FaceTime each other and his friends fill the screen asking when you are going to visit. His friends have always been so welcoming and supportive. If you're anything like me, you want to reassure your boyfriend's friends that their friendship is extremely important to you. Here are 10 times you know your boyfriend's friends are your friends too.
1. When they make plans to hangout with your boyfriend, they always include you.
Three months of summer was far too long to stay away from each other. You planned when would be the best time to visit before move out day.
2. They wish you went to your boyfriend's school.
"It would be a blast to hangout all the time. We could be such great friends."
3. When there is never a dull moment.
It doesn't matter if we are playing basketball or just hanging out in the dorms; we always have fun and laugh way too much. The late night drives to McDonalds or Culver's consist of blasting music in the car and dancing to let everyone watch.
4. They care about you the same way they care about your boyfriend.
They support your efforts towards your degree by reading and sharing your articles. They truly care about your relationship with your boyfriend and are always there for advice when things get rocky.
5. They keep your boyfriend company when you can't physically be there for him.
Long distant relationships come with pros and cons. Your boyfriend's friends help on the sad days when the distance seems too far. They keep him smiling with dorm basketball matches and endless jokes. I couldn't be more grateful for the love and friendship they have shown to him.
6. You care about them and want the best for them.
You ask questions about their majors and what classes they are taking. You want to see them succeed and get excited to see them get involved in clubs and teams. You are also there for them in time of distress or discomfort. When an argument breaks out within the friend group you try to console them and help them discover the bigger picture.
7. They inform you about the person you love.
Your boyfriend's friends are your inside eyes and ears. They give you tips for Christmas and birthday presents. If you plan to spend Halloween together, you send each other pictures of cliché group costumes.
8. You are a part of the "squad."
Within the first few times of meeting, you are considered squad material.
9. You make fun of each other.
Identifying his friends as sexy panda, T-pain or Mitchard and never referring to them by their real names.
10. When you're sad to say goodbye.
The goodbyes never get easier, but the times you spend together are always talked about and laughed about when you return.
The appreciation I have for all my boyfriend's friends grows everyday. Thank you for being a friend to the person I care for so deeply. Thank you for keeping a smile on his face and causing his belly to ache from laughing so hard. Thank you for teaching him how to be the best version of himself. He is lucky to have such great friends and I am too.
