1. When you wake up for your earliest class and realize you didn’t do the homework.
You are not the only one, we have all been there. It is one of the first signs of wanting to drop out that we have all experienced.
2. You then do the homework and rush to class all the way across campus, only to find out it was cancelled.
Once again, you are not alone. This sucks, but on the bright
side you can go get Starbucks (or Dunkin' Donuts) and eat some breakfast or, depending
when your next class is, go back to sleep!
3. When you get to your next class and your professor starts passing out the test you completely forgot about.
For some reason this always happens to me. I mean, I know I can’t be the only one, right? When you get to that 10 a.m. and completely forgot to study for the test that your professor has been reminding you about for the past two weeks. It sucks, I know.
4. When you get out of your last class and think you're free until you realize you have about 73 hours worth of homework due the next day.
One of my "favorite" moments. Usually, I put off work until the last minute and try to enjoy college while I’m still young. However, putting off work is the absolute worst. Just get it done. There will be plenty of other "Thirsty Thursdays" and "Tequila Tuesdays." Concentrate on graduating first, or you’ll be celebrating them for the rest of your life. Good grades > good booze.
5. When you get back to your dorm/apartment and decide to take a “20-minute” nap but wake up at 11:30 p.m. and the paper you forgot to start is due by 11:59 p.m. in DropBox.
If you haven’t done this yet, try your best not to. There is nothing like the pure panic of waking up and realizing you have a speech proposal due at 11:59 p.m. that you forgot about (I actually just realized I have a proposal due at 11:59 p.m. tonight...whoops). Try to be proactive and do it during your down-time.
6. All of your friends say they're skipping class to go to lunch down on Main Street but you have a test that's worth ¾ of your grade that you can't miss.
Don’t skip class just because your friends are. If it’s really that important, it would be considered an excused absence–and use your free passes for unexcused absences wisely, not all in the first month. I promise, you will thank yourself later.
7. When you think you're doing amazing in a class until you look at your grades online only to find that you're passing by .2%
Check your grades. I have learned from experience. Just do your best, do your work, participate in class and don’t be afraid to ask for help. It’ll be worth it in the long run.
8. When all of your friends go to wing night, but you can't even order off the dollar menu at McDonald's because you're too poor.
Chances are you will not have a lot of money in college
unless you have a job, or mommy and daddy are giving you money to buy food when
you actually spend it on alcohol. Save your money and try not to spend it all
in one place. You never know when you might need it.
9. When your friends are all going out but you can’t because you have a seven-page paper due Monday morning that was just assigned to you on Friday.
You have to choose between going out or finishing up that
paper? Choose the paper. There will be plenty of other nights to get wasted and
black out. However, if you don’t put your classes first, then I’m not so sure you
will have plenty of other nights. Put your education first.
10. Lastly, when you look at that pile of homework you have and just say, “I'll be a stripper.”
We have all been there. I actually consider it at least once a day, but it’d be more fun doing something you love. So buck up and finish that homework, and go have the best four years of your life!
