10 Thoughts I Have While Watching the Olympics
Time

The Winter Olympics have begun, and yet again, the world is in awe of the athletes that compete. I know that I personally have the utmost respect for these incredible contenders. They have put their entire lives into training for their sport, the hours and hours of dedication are unmatched. We watch in awe and excitement at the races and contests that take place before us on the world's stage. As I watch the Olympics, I know I'm always at a loss for complete coherent thoughts. Maybe you'll be able to relate to some.

1. How did they even do that!?!?

Whether it's talking about slopestyle, figure skating, speed skating, giant slalom, super G, halfpipe -- it doesn't matter. It always amazes me, especially since I know how hard snowboarding and ice skating are.

2. They must be freezing.

This can be talking about the athletes as they wait the coaches standing on the sides of the mountains, or the spectators watching all day long.

3. They're going so fast!!!!!

Speed skating, luge, bobsled, skeleton, downhill -- it's actually incredible how these people can keep their balance and not freak out because of the G-forces they must be withstanding.

4. I wonder how loud it actually is there.

The crowd seems loud, but I bet it's actually almost deafening.

5. Curling is on!!!

I'm not sure how or why, but I've grown incredibly fond of curling.

6. Those uniforms cannot be comfortable.

All the tight material uniforms make sense for aerodynamics, but they cannot be comfortable.

7. Wait -- they're how old?!

The US has two gold medalists who aren't even 18. I'm in absolute awe. What have I been doing with my life?

8. All of these Olympics commercials are so uplifting.

I mean seriously, have you been watching them? I never thought a car company and a peanut butter brand could move me so much.

9. Ohhhhh my gosh that's got to hurt.

Whether it's wiping out on skis or a snowboard or falling during ice skating (then seamlessly getting up and continuing to perform completely in sync with their partner!?), or in speed skating, it's all got to hurt.

10. Wow, I love the Olympics.

I love the way the Olympic Games have the ability to bring people from around the world together, and also how at any time of day or night you can turn it on and watch the best of the best compete. When I can't sleep I've been watching curling and hockey.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
