The moment every student has been waiting for is finally here.
No more classes. No more grades to worry about or certain obligations with clubs. With three good months at home, most would believe that summer would be filled without any worry or stress.
However, this is not often the case. It is quite the opposite as those who haven't graduated must see their friends graduate, aim to find a job, start their internship or continue with summer classes. In the midst of it all, you find you actually miss the schedule of class and the friends who make it all worth it.
1. You miss school within days of being back home.
Crazy as it seems, you'll miss your college more than anything. It only takes being away for a bit to realize you might take it for granted.
2. You have to find a job.
Let's face it, we all need money. It's hard to come by when you're a student, especially for the one thing you need it most. Summer is set aside to work until you have every penny possible saved.
3. Final grades come in.
You thought it was over, didn't you? Just as soon as you settle back home, your semester grades will be finalized and a few fragile hopes may be crushed.
4. Parties back home aren't the same.
Believe me when I say it's nothing like in college. Sure, you could reconnect and throw down with a few good friends back home, but it's the people you meet in college who will always have the craziest memories to share with you.
5. Starting your internship.
This is simultaneously an exciting and scary big deal. It's the first step in the right direction towards your future career, and in many ways it is time consuming and daunting. It will help you decide whether you want to pursue the career you're working towards.
6. You get bored.
If you aren't employed and find yourself alone at home, boredom will begin to set in. You'll be missing your friends and the good times you have back at school.
7. Counting the days until you're back.
When you're beyond the point of boredom, you'll begin to do the only thing you can think of doing. Counting the days until you're back.
8. Secretly laughing that high school students are still in school more than you.
Summer may not be all fun and games, but at least it feels good knowing you get more of a break than your younger counterparts. And to think we went through high school too.
9. Wondering why you signed up for summer classes.
Summer courses are a great way to catch up with certain requirements, take extra credits to look good on that degree or to retake a class you may not have done so well in. It's until you actually get homework that the hard part sets in again.
10. Wishing for a vacation during your vacation.
Some are more fortunate with this than others. It's great to get away, but for those who spend most of the summer months working or taking classes, this is hard to come by. And seeing all your other friends go on awesome trips doesn't help.
Summer is great, but it's a lot different now than it used to be. Priorities have changed and the real world has set in, even during the time the real world shouldn't apply. It's important that whatever you do during summer, never take it for granted because like most things now, it goes by fast.
