For a very long time now, "Game of Thrones" has been getting a lot of attention, and there has been a lot of hype for it. I had heard of it a while ago, but for one reason or another (that reason was usually my repeated binging of "The Office"), I never started it. However, as I sat on my couch one night trying to find something to watch that would really entice me, I decided to give it a go. Needless to say, I have definitely been enjoying it, considering the fact that I finished the first season in a few days. Here are 10 thoughts that I've had as a newcomer to the franchise. Side note: if you haven't started watching it, which I highly suggest you do, there will be spoilers ahead.
1. I really hope that this show is worth all of the hype it's getting.
This is the exact thought that went through my head as the intro, and the map of the Seven Kingdoms, rolled out. Little did I know, it is worth all the hype and more.
2. WHAT ARE THESE CREATURES?!
During the first episode, when I experienced my first encounter with the White Walkers, I was freaked out, to say the least. All I kept thinking was: what are these creatures? Who are these men in the forest? I thought this show was about royalty? I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
3. Awww, puppies!
Puppies? In "Game of Thrones?" Not quite. Althought the direwolf pups were absolutely adorable, they have also definitely proven that they can be deadly. I was so excited when the Stark children were allowed to keep them, and even more excited every time they protected their respective owners. I also hated how they were treated by some people, though. (I'm looking at you, Queen Cersei.)
4. SO. MUCH. NUDITY.
The amount of nudity in this show is truly incredible. I can't even remember the amount of times that two characters were having sex... of course, most of the time it was between Tyrion and prostitutes, but we all saw that coming.
5. Speaking of Tyrion...
I love him. I'm not the only one, right?! I mean, not only is he adorable, but he also can be a savage! He does it all. When he's not getting down and dirty with numerous prostitutes, he's often making witty comments, and I love it. Everyone in his family needs to stop being so mean to him. (Then again, they are Lannisters.)
6. YASSSS DAENERYS, you are the Khaleesi!
At first, I wasn't sure about how I felt about Daenerys. She seemed so timid, and her relationship with her brother (What was his name again? Does it even matter?) was so unhealthy it made me sick. Quickly, though, my love for her character became very real. As the first season continued, she became more and more powerful and brave, while still maintaining sanity and kindness (Some queens find this to be difficult. I'm looking at you again, Cersei). While we're on the topic of the Khaleesi...
7. Daenerys and Khal Drogo were seriously relationship goals.
OK, maybe not exactly my relationship goals, but let's be real: by the end, they were so good together. Khal Drogo was not my favorite character at first, but by the time he died, I was so attached. When he would call Daenerys his moon, I would lose my mind. He's one of the greatest warriors in all of the seven kingdoms, and he still calls his wife by cute pet names! Also, how he defended her honor to anyone that dared to disrespect her. No one was going to be rude to her, not on his watch. Not to mention the beautiful white horse that he gave her as a wedding present. Goals.
8. Sansa. Why.
I just can't deal with her, honestly. I don't know how anyone else feels about her, but honestly she just frustrates me most of the time. It's clear that she initially only wants to become queen and marry Joffrey, and she acts quite brattily about it. Then, when things start to get more serious, and he becomes "king," she then finally realizes how horrible he is. Especially when she begs for mercy on her father, and he murders him anyway. (Side note: he even made her look at her father's severed head on a stake. Who does that?!)
9. NOT NED. NO. THEY CAN'T DO THIS.
Even as he stood in front of "King" Joffrey and an angry crowd, I still thought that there would be some way he could be saved. They can't kill off Ned, can they? He's one of the only honorable characters on the whole show? Yes, they can kill him off, and they did. I cried real tears. Not my best moment.
10. OH MY GOD!
The amount of times that I yelled this phrase and held my hand over my gaped mouth were plentiful: when I found out that there was more than brotherly and sisterly love between Cersei and Jaime, when Jaime then proceeded to push my sweet Bran out of the window, every time I saw Jon Snow (he's just too handsome), every time Cersei ripped up an important document, when that rude witch woman essentially killed Khal Drogo, when Daenerys walked through fire and then was flocked by dragons, and I'm sure many more moments throughout the first season.
This season definitely did not disappoint, and it has turned me into a "Game of Thrones" addict. I cannot wait to see what the next five seasons have in store. Now, put your laptop, smartphone, whatever you're using down, and go watch some "Game of Thrones!"
